Cuervo may have been making alcohol for more than 200 years, but its venerable status as the oldest tequila brand around doesn’t mean it’s above moving with the times. A couple of weeks back, Cuervo announced it was entering the canned margarita space, hopping on the recent ready-to-drink train that’s been careening through the whole world. Now, it’s celebrating the very modern inclination to slam your laptop shut halfway through a Friday and kick back with a beverage.

Maybe people have been doing that for decades, I dunno. Either way, it’s gonna pay you to do it (if you tick all the boxes). Here’s the deal.
Thanks, Cuervo
The tequila brand has just announced that it’s “officially declaring Summer Fridays a mandated good time,” so sayeth its press release. It’s doing this in several ways, some of which might be more appealing than others for your wallet. Cuervo’s got a couple of cheeky lil’ ways for you to duck out of your Friday afternoon meetings and get drinking over on its Summer Fridays HQ website, including pre-written doctor’s notes that state, “Patient has entered weekend mode ahead of standard operating hours,” and which recommend that they log off immediately and grab a canned margarita (or a different tequila-based cocktail. It’s also got some copy-and-paste email responses and reaction .gifs, that you can send your co-workers on Slack, or your company’s messaging app of choice.
Now, obviously, none of this is likely to be approved by your employer (unless your boss is also feeling the Friday marg spirit) – so take it all with a salt rim, and maybe don’t give in that doctor’s note unless you’re sure it’ll go down well. But hey. Who knows!
You Mentioned Payment…
Yes – and this is probably the most attractive part of Cuervo’s Summer Fridays campaign. It’s also offering you the chance to expense a margarita, on them, while supplies last. If you buy a Cuervo-based cocktail or drink in a bar or restaurant, take a picture of your receipt and upload it to the website above. Provided that all of the T’s & C’s are met, Cuervo will reimburse you up to $10.
Not bad, right? We’re not sure how many of these expensed cocktails Cuervo has to give away, but it’s worth a shot. Oh, and Cuervo’s also running a sweepstakes, through which you could win up to $1,500 towards the ultimate Summer Friday experience. I can think of worse things to do than enter an online competition while sipping a cocktail.
