For a little relief from all the fall drops that are coming, we’ve got some pizza news for you. Domino’s is no stranger to pizza innovations. We’ve had things from their new sauce to their Dubai chocolate pizza and their s’mores lava cakes. They’re also no strangers to deals.

This time, the idea people at Domino’s seemed to be thinking very literally. Because Domino’s is releasing the Domino pizza.

A Brand New Shape (Kinda)

Okay, you kind of have to see the promo photos to get it fully. They laid the pepperoni out so the rectangle of pizza looked like a domino. I won’t deny, it’s pretty creative. Honestly, it’s surprising that it took Domino’s over 60 years in business to finally make a pizza based on their namesake.

So just what is the Domino pizza? It’s a Detroit-style pizza. For those that don’t know, Detroit style features a thick, chewy breading with a crispy crust. It’s breadier than most crust styles as the crust is thick like a focaccia. This is topped with any number of pizza toppings and then the brick cheese is sprinkled to the edges of the pan, allowing the cheese to crisp as it bakes and add a lacy, cheesy edge to your pizza (it’s the best part of Detroit style, trust me).

For Domino’s their new Domino pizza is meant to be a personal pizza, so you can get all the toppings you want and not have to worry about appeasing other tastes. This new pizza is coming to their Mix and Match deal, so you can get two or more of these pizzas for just $6.99 each. A whole Detroit pizza for yourself for 7 bucks? Domino’s may just get me to come back to them.

When Does It Release?

Now, I know you’re excited to try it, but you are going to have to wait a little bit. These pizzas will go live nationwide on August 31st. I know, I was a little disappointed, too. I was ready to try it.

Domino’s seems like they’re gunning for Little Caesars just a little bit with this introduction. Little Caesars Detroit pizzas are billed as grab-and-go lunches. Domino’s says their new pizza is perfect for snacking, lunch, and more. And hey, if Domino’s can beat Little Caesars Hot-n-Ready speed, this might be better.

When I'm not writing about food, I can be found cooking up new creations, watching cooking shows (GBBO has me in a hold right now), and shopping for new and interesting foods to try. When I'm not writing and too full to think about food, I play games and hang out with my dogs.
