It has been quite the year for Frito-Lay this year. It feels like every week we’re talking about new releases and reviewing new products. Today it’s another new Frito-Lay product: We’re tasting the returning Doritos Late Night Zesty Jalapeño Popper. Originally released way back in 2009, it’s back and exclusively available at Kroger—but is it better than ever? Are these Late Night Doritos worth staying up late for? I’ve got a bag, so let’s pop(per) it open and find out.

New (Returning) Doritos!

Doritos Late Night Zesty Jalapeño Popper

Pros: The jalapeño pepper flavor is very pleasant and marries with the nacho cheese flavor and hints of other cheeses, too, like Swiss and Monterey Jack. These flavors combine to convincingly embody the essence of a jalapeño popper. These newly returned Doritos are seasoned exceptionally well and each bite gives you a blast of cheesy, jalapeño-y goodness.

Cons: This could be a pro or a con, depending where you stand on spice levels in food. I was hoping for MUCH more heat than I’m getting from these Doritos. I have learned with other releases from Frito-Lay that they are not afraid of spice, and I can’t help but feel like they’re holding back a little bit in this case. I don’t need these to roundhouse kick me in the face with heat, but a little bit of a kick just to get a sweat going would be ideal.
