Last year, Werther’s wowed the nation with six fall-inspired flavors—one of which even took home a Sporked Award. This holiday season, the favorite candy brand of stereotypical cartoon elderly people in a theater is dropping just one new flavor (that we know of) but it has certainly piqued our interest. Get your granny ready for Werther’s Original Gingerbread Soft Caramels.

What will Gingerbread Werther’s be like?

According to the packaging, these soft caramels “feature soft and creamy caramels with the taste of gingerbread.” That’s vague as heck. But it doesn’t appear that these will have a flavored “creme” inside them like last year’s Maple or Cinnamon Werther’s. Instead, it appears they will be more like the uniformly flavored Caramel Apple Soft Caramels, which we really liked. How will they make these new Werther’s taste specifically like gingerbread rather than just ginger-flavored caramels? Perhaps there will be a hint of frosting…or flour.

When can I buy Gingerbread Werther’s?

According to @Markie_Devo on Instagram, these are already hitting shelves, despite it still being summer. It’s currently unclear whether these are a limited time offering, but I think it’s safe to say you’ll be hard pressed to find them after New Year’s Day.

Where can I buy Gingbread Werther’s?

Werther’s fans have spotted these new flavors at Walmart, Dollar Tree, and other stores. They are not exclusive to any store in particular.

Should I buy Gingerbread Werther’s?

We haven’t tasted these new Werther’s yet, but you can bet your caramel-loving buns we’ll be trying them as soon as we can and we’ll let you know. If you do get a hold of them before our review goes live, be sure and post your own in the comments.

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
