Celebrity chefs: They’re just like us! Okay, so maybe they’re not exactly like us, but we have some things in common. Take Gordon Ramsay, for instance. The British chef, TV host, all-around media mogul, and creator of Chef Ramsay frozen meals may have made a name for himself showing people how to improve their restaurants and cook better dishes (often with a healthy amount of cursing), but Ramsay likes fast food as much as the rest of us. And his favorite spot? It’s In-N-Out.

Why Gordon Ramsay Loves In-N-Out

Ramsay makes no secret about his love of In-N-Out, having professed it on multiple occasions. He loves the California-based chain’s commitment to local sourcing and its sense of state pride, and how well its drive-thru operation works. It doesn’t use frozen burgers, either. Ramsay was even inspired by In-N-Out when he came to start his own mini chain of burger restaurants. That’s pretty much the highest praise that a fast food joint can hope for. Most of all, though, Ramsay loves the chain’s food. Simple as that.

For Ramsay, It’s All About The Double-Double, Animal Style

So, what does the famously sweary chef order when he hops over to In-N-Out? It’s the Double-Double, Animal Style, every single time. (In fact, it was even on his menu when he filmed an episode of “Last Meals”) Those who are a little newer to In-N-Out may never have seen this dish on the menu – and that’s because it’s not on there. It’s one of the chain’s not-so-secret secret menu items, one that’s a firm favorite amongst countless In-N-Out fans.

What Is a Double-Double, Animal Style?

While we love a good secret, we’re sorry, In-N-Out, but we’re gonna spill the details. An Animal-Style burger is glazed with mustard before being grilled. Then it’s topped with grilled onions, extra burger sauce, and pickles. This method of cooking imbues the burger with a funky, sour flavor, which offsets the beefy notes perfectly. It also adds some all-important moisture to the burger, which can make it a little sloppy, but hey, that’s what eating like an animal’s all about. Asking for it Double-Double, meanwhile, means that you get two burger patties and two slices of burger cheese. More mess, more flavor.

How Can You Try a Double-Double, Animal-Style Like Gordon Ramsay?

Want to try a Double-Double, Animal-Style yourself? Just ask. There’s no secret code word. No club you need to be a member of. This ultimate cheeseburger isn’t one of those secret menu items that you’ll have to explain to the server. In-N-Out’s so proud of its Animal-Style creation that it even publicizes it on its website. Not exactly the most classified information, but when it tastes this good, why would you hide it away from the masses?
