Whether it’s a generic take on mocha or a bizarrely bitter pumpkin spice, we’ve all had bad coffee ice cream before. Luckily for us, Jeni’s Ice Cream is here to not only clear but raise the bar. Based on past experiences, we have every reason to expect the new Jeni’s House Coffee flavor will knock the concept out of the park.
Jeni’s House Coffee Ice Cream launched on February 7th, aka “Ice Cream For Breakfast Day.” While I missed trying this flavor on launch day at my local scoop shop, Jeni’s sent over a pint (alongside the returning Maple-Soaked Pancakes flavor, which I ranked very highly last year), so we can have ice cream for breakfast on our own schedule.
Wait, didn’t Jeni’s already have a coffee ice cream?
Jeni’s House Coffee is actually the third coffee-flavored ice cream from Jeni’s we’ve covered to date on Sporked. Editor-in-chief Justine Sterling loved the Slingshot Coffee-infused Dairy-Free Cold Brew with Coconut Cream so much that it’s #8 on our Jeni’s flavor ranking and #2 on our coffee ice cream ranking!
At #11 on that same Jeni’s ranking is Coffee with Cream & Sugar, which I assume today’s review subject has now replaced entirely. While I really enjoyed the original version made with Intelligentsia Coffee, I’m not surprised Jeni’s has continued to develop the concept with new coffee blends and the addition of ground espresso. That’s what we really love about Jeni’s; they just keep innovating.
