Ted Lasso is coming back. In fact, Ted Lasso IS back. The first episode of the fourth season of this blockbuster show drops today on Apple TV, and you may well have heard about it. The build-up to Ted Lasso’s apparent last season (after LAST season was meant to be its last season, but there was more story to tell, people!) has been punctuated not just by press appointments with the cast, but with food tie-ins. A few weeks ago, Jeni’s ice cream released a Ted Lasso flavor – and now, KFC’s getting involved, with a deal of its own.

But…we feel like we’ve heard this one before. Let’s discuss.

KFC’s Comeback Bucket

In honor of the underdog feel that permeates the show, and the comeback both of AFC Richmond and of the series itself, KFC is releasing its “Comeback Bucket.” For the price of just $10, you can get yourself 10 wings and two dipping sauces (including barbecue sauce, of course, in honor of Lasso’s catchphrase). We can see it now: A bucket perched on your lap, wings dunking into sauce pots, as you watch, transfixed, as Ted smiles and wisecracks his way through another episode. Hey, there are worse ways to spend a night in.

As we alluded to above, though, this deal feels, shall we say, reminiscent of another one. And that deal was KFC’s expansion of its $10 Tuesday into a weekly lineup of Bucket of the Day deals, which, incidentally, I covered back in May. KFC’s Wednesday deal was…10 wings and two dipping sauces for $10. I smell a rebrand in Ted Lasso livery! But nonetheless, if you liked that deal back then, you’ll like it now.

Even More Barbecue Sauce…

Jeni’s and KFC aren’t the only two food partnerships the show’s embarked on this year. In the first episode of season 4, the crew heads to Gates Bar-B-Q in Kansas City, where Lasso is from. Incidentally, we ranked the restaurant’s BBQ sauce fifth in our lineup of the best bottled options out there, and while Gates hasn’t put out a show-specific version of its sauce, we can imagine it hasn’t minded the publicity over the last 24 hours or so. Who knows what other food-based delights the rest of the episodes will reveal? We’ve got months of them ahead of us. Plenty of time to buy a couple of buckets of KFC in the meantime.
