Beyond like, professional harpists, and those of us who sometimes forget how to count, we tend to take our fingers for granted. They click, they provide high fives, and they’re incredibly helpful when it comes to communicating with offensive gestures. But there’s at least one day of the year when it’s very, very important to both respect, and protect, our fingers: the Fourth of July.

For some reason, July 4th is that one day a year when an insane number of Americans suddenly deem ourselves qualified to handle small-scale pyrotechnics. Lucky for us KFC understands our weird, national propensity for flammable rapscallionism. They also know how essential fingers are to the enjoyment of their iconic “Fiinger Lickin’ Good” fried chicken (it would actually be weird if they didn’t). So, as KFC tries to rise back to the top of fast food chicken, they’ve come up with a beautiful kind of symbiotic celebration of both fingers and fireworks. And chicken.

The KFC And Jackass Collab

This (yes, 250th!) Fourth of July, not only is KFC offering a meal deal special―a 12-piece bucket for just $15 and available through the app until July 11th. They’ve also teamed up with America’s own Puckish Prince of (Near-Missed) Calamity, Johnny Knoxville, to produce a genuinely helpful fireworks PSA that ensures we’ll have all the fingers we need to grab the best pieces out of the bucket before anyone notices.

Sure, most of us might have lived quite comfortably without ever watching a celebrity earnestly discuss “finger safety,” but if it had to happen, Johnny Knoxville seems like the best possible choice. The PSA (directed in classic Jackass style by Jeff Tremaine), features five tips on how to preserve your fingers. (Because how else are we gonna crack open a THC Cocktail or Colostrum Soda? Yes, America is weird.) And while the tips aren’t legally―seriously, not legally―endorsed, they contain a bunch of common sense.

And An Extra Deal

The first 6200 KFC Rewards members to claim the $15 12-piece bucket deal will also score a $15 promo code from Fandango, good for tickets (well, one ticket) to “Jackass: Best and Last” (in theaters now). So if you don’t have it, download the KFC app, read up on fireworks safety, and celebrate the Fourth with a lot of belly laughs and (ideally) all 10 fingers.

Emily has been writing about food and drink for a bunch of years now. (There WAS an "internet," we just used it by candlelight.) And while she's definitely eaten fancier food than she could ever personally afford, Emily actually has a deep-seated passion for bodegas, street meat, and basically the kinds of things you get to nosh on in a noisier kind of culinary life. She's unapologetically against macaroni salad and believes Sour Patch Kids are an acceptable substitute for cherry tomatoes in a salad.
