Kroger’s ice cream aisle is always a fairly busy and pretty satisfying place. While the store doesn’t tend to announce its new frozen dessert offerings in a particularly high-profile way (unless they’re released for something big, like its July 4 flavors, which were accompanied by a big giveaway), there’s usually a fairly steady churn – hehe – of ice creams for its customers to sample. And the kicker is that a lot of them are very good. Maybe even better than some major brands.

So we’re usually intrigued when we catch wind of a new option, and yesterday, that very thing happened. We found out that Kroger has a new fall-themed ice cream flavor, and we simply must discuss it.
Kroger Private Selection Amaretto Cookie & Apple
Kroger is now stocking a new Amaretto Cookie & Apple flavor in its Private Selection line. We heard of this, as we do with so many other new items that don’t get their own press releases, via @candyhunting. If you wanna talk about boots-on-the-ground food journalism, we’ll shout them out every day. Anyway, this new flavor is fall-ready and is a pleasing combination of spiced cinnamon apple ice cream mixed through with crunchy amaretto cookie pieces. I can already taste how good it’ll be with some caramel sauce drizzled over the top.
Kroger customers are already delighted with the news of this new flavor, which provides a nice new twist on autumnal flavors without straying too far from the pack. “Amaretto apple WILL BE MINE!!!!!” said one particularly enthusiastic fan, in a tone that feels almost vengeful (no shade, I get the sentiment behind it). Another said that they’d be heading to Kroger straight away to pick it up. I get it. Good ice cream is the kind of thing you move mountains for.
A Returning Favorite
As well as its new Private Selection Amaretto Cookie & Apple flavor, Kroger is also re-releasing its Private Selection New York Style Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream. This annual seasonal treat has been around for a decade now, meaning that we can’t begrudge Kroger for getting in on the pumpkin spice action – it was clearly there before a lot of others jumped on the bandwagon. This ice cream combines a pumpkin spice base with cheesecake pieces, and it’s a winner whenever it comes around: One customer last year called it “incredibly delicious,” and that’s all the vindication we need for wanting to buy it.
