The number of flavors Lay’s has up its sleeve at any given moment is kind of baffling, to be honest. The chip company conjures up new varieties seemingly every week – and yes, I know that a lot of them are variations on a theme or flavor and probably only take a few tweaks, but I still admire the sheer bulk of snacks. Take its recent World Cup flavors, for example: We got well over a dozen new options in one go, and Lay’s still came back for more in the months following that drop, with its barbecue brisket and (divisive) Magic Masala flavor arriving in August and September.

Well, now we’re in the run-up to Christmas, and Lay’s has struck yet again. By “struck,” I mean that it’s given us a duo of new options. And they might be ones you want to try.
Lay’s Cheddar Scalloped Style Potatoes And Roasted Holiday Turkey
As confirmed by @candyhunting, Lay’s is bringing two new holiday flavors out soon: Cheddar Scalloped Style Potatoes and Roasted Holiday Turkey. The former will attempt to capture the creamy, salty, umami notes of everyone’s favorite side dish (by “everyone,” I mean “me”) and the latter will trade in meaty, more full-bodied notes. They’ve already been listed on a couple of grocery store websites, so I’d imagine they’ll start appearing imminently – and some stores might already have them. Essentially, get hunting.
So far, it seems like the Cheddar Scalloped Style Potatoes are by far the most anticipated. @candyhunting’s post about the chips was met with a flood of comments from people saying how excited they are about them. The Roasted Holiday Turkey flavor, meanwhile, got a slightly more muted response, and one person noted that Lay’s meat-flavored chips can sometimes be a little disappointing. Both of these are pretty safe options for the holiday season, though, so I’d imagine they’re not going to be controversial.
And What Do We Think?
We think that these sound delicious, quite frankly. I definitely agree with the consensus here: the Cheddar Scalloped Style Potatoes sound like they could be excellent. After all, half the work is done already – the potatoes are right there, in chip form! But cheddar, butter, perhaps a pop of herbs in there too? I’m sold. As for the Roasted Holiday Turkey flavor, I’m personally a fan of meaty chips, and if they’re anything like the Roast Chicken flavor (which I heavily recommend trying if you ever find them somewhere like World Market – they’re big in the UK), then they’ll be umami-forward, salty, and strangely satisfying.
