We Tried the First-Ever Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Creme Pies from Little Debbie

At this point, it seems like every single product that could be pumpkin spice’d has been pumpkin spice’d. In recent memory, we’ve talked about pumpkin spice invading Slurpees, Alani Nu energy drinks, Chardonnay, and even gouda. I’m no PSL hater (except for that Alani Nu flavor—Tyler and I have very different opinions on that), but I do wonder where the line is.

One place pumpkin spice hasn’t stepped is into Little Debbie’s pride and joy: Oatmeal Creme Pies. That changes today, as we’ve got our hands on the shiny new Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Creme Pie. Let’s find out whether the trend to end all trends was worth messing with a classic.

Pros: This new Oatmeal Creme Pie tastes exactly like you’d hope or fear depending on your position on pumpkin spice. The pumpkin flavoring blends very well with the classic oatmeal cookies. The pumpkin spice creme almost feels fluffier than the original, though I’m not ruling out that feeling being psychosomatic as a result of the excitement from eating the first-ever Oatmeal Creme Pie flavor variant.

Cons: I’ve been eating Oatmeal Creme Pies for as long as I can remember; so messing with the quintessential creme filling recipe feels a little sacrilegious. This is good, but I don’t see myself buying a second box; if anything, this made me want an original Oatmeal Creme Pie to remind myself we really got it perfect the first time around.

What’s next for Little Debbie?

I wish I knew, y’all. After the back-to-back slam dunks of Nutty Buddy Creme Pies and Nutty Buddy Cake Bars earlier this year, I’d like to see a new L.D. creation monthly at minimum. Where’s the Nutty Buddy Donut Sticks? Or the Nutty Buddy Pecan Spinwheels? And do I even need to say it…Nutty Buddy Double Decker Fudge Rounds? I hope Deborah is working hard in that lab of hers; I have needs.
