I’ve tried damn near every Monster Energy drink available here in the States, so it was only a matter of time before I moved into exotic, international flavors. I’ve been looking for today’s subject for a long time, so I’m glad I finally found it at World Market. The Japanese Monster Energy M3 Extra Strength, also known as Monster Cubed, is exactly what it says on the label: triple-strength Monster! This 5oz bottle contains all the energy you’re used to from the classic 16oz Monster Energy cans available at all fine retailers. Let’s crack one open and see whether we can complete this review in a third of the time.

Pros: First off, this definitely has an extra-strong Monster aroma to it. This is what a Monster Energy-scented candle should smell like (entirely hypothetically – please don’t start making those). The flavor is undoubtedly Monster Energy, but it isn’t thick like you might fear from a hyper-concentrated version of an already somewhat-syrupy drink. If you were hoping Monster Cubed was just ready-to-go Monster Energy snowcone syrup, I’m sorry to disappoint.
Here’s something I wasn’t expecting: is this nitrogenated? While I couldn’t find anything official to confirm that theory, Caffeine Informer states affirmatively that this drink is nitrogenated rather than being carbonated the old-fashioned way. As someone who’d march in the streets for the return of my beloved Nitro Pepsi, I love this super-smooth Monster Energy experience.
Cons: If you drink energy drinks to get caffeine into your body as quickly as possible, Monster Cubed is the perfect drink for you. If you actually enjoy energy drinks, this isn’t quite what you want. The significantly smaller size will leave you wanting more by the end of the bottle.

Where can I get Monster Cubed for myself?
If this triple-strength Monster Energy drink appeals to your core sensibilities, you’ve got a few options. The most likely option will be our favorite widely available import shop, World Market, where we found the bottle we tried today. Monster Cubed is a pretty popular drink to import since the American brand recognition supercedes the foreign language on the label, so it’s one of the easier “exotic” drinks to find. Have you tried Monster M3 before? Should Monster Energy get into the 5-hour energy “mini-drink” space here in the States? Let me know in the comments.
