We Got the Scoop on Mountain Dew Baja ‘Merica Melon

The reveal of an upcoming Mountain Dew flavor is the beverage journalism equivalent of a bases-loaded home run: It’s just rare enough to be super exciting. Speaking of American iconography, the new Mountain Dew flavor of which we’ll be speaking is called Mountain Dew Baja ‘Merica Melon. I’m not sure what the flashy patriotism is supposed to signify—the flavor combination being presented here is actually watermelon lime. Just in time for the 4th of July, let’s find out a little more about the new Mountain Dew flavor we’ll be drinking to celebrate our nation this time next year.

Did you say Mountain Dew Baja ‘Merica Melon is coming next year?

This new Mountain Dew flavor is currently slated to release in June 2026 for a two-month limited-time-only promotional period. There’s always a chance distribution plans will change between now and next summer, but for now, we’re confident this is a release worth talking about. (It’s not the only 2026 release we’re expecting from Mountain Dew either; stay tuned for another news piece coming soon from yours truly…)

Is watermelon lime a particularly American combination?

While I think a salted watermelon soda would be a more American/summery flavor, I can’t fault Mountain Dew for going with a safer combination. Watermelon and lime are a very popular pairing—just google “watermelon limeade” and check out all the recipes. 

Watermelon is a tried-and-true flavor for Mountain Dew as well; while it was discontinued after a few years, Mountain Dew Major Melon definitely had (and still has, judging by my DMs) a fervent fan base. Hopefully, ‘Merica Melon can fill the soda void in their hearts.

Is this new Mountain Dew really a “Baja” soda?

I’d call this more of a fitting follow-up to Mountain Dew Baja Blast than many other Baja-branded beverages we’ve seen in recent years. Baja Blast is “Tropical Lime,” so in my mind, anything claiming to be “Baja” should at least include a little lime. We’ve seen plenty of Baja-branded releases (even a Doritos flavor!), but this one actually feels like an appropriate addition to the family.
