Nathan’s Famous hot dogs live up to their name. It isn’t just pure self-aggrandisement from this brand: They are famous, and frankly, its hot dogs and fast food products are some of our favorites out there. Yes, it’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s doing what it does well: Franks, mini dogs, and bagel dogs that hit the spot and that don’t completely bankrupt you.

However, it seems like this brand is quietly reconsidering its future behind the scenes. That’s it its new hot dog is anything to go by. Nathan’s Famous has recently dropped new Grass-Fed Skinless Beef Franks over at Sam’s Club, and we’re here to talk about them. So, let’s talk about them.
Nathan’s Famous Grass-Fed Skinless Beef Franks
Nathan’s Famous’ new franks are a first for the company, which, up until now, has never made a 100% grass-fed beef frank before. These new, uncured beef franks come in a 16-count at Sam’s Club, and they come in at about $12 per pack, although this may vary from store to store. They also have no preservatives, no artificial flavors or colors, and no corn syrup.
Grass-fed beef is generally a little less fatty than grain-fed beef, and it can have a slightly more earthy flavor. Having said this, given that hot dogs are generally pretty heavily salted and spiced, the taste difference here is probably going to be slightly less noticeable than if you were opting for a grass-fed cut of steak over a grain-fed one. Instead, this move from Nathan’s Famous feels less driven by taste and more driven by a wider move in the food industry towards less “manufactured” products (which we were discussing just a few days ago when we talked about Aldi’s move to remove dozens of ingredients from its foods). It looks like it’s moving with the times, although all of its other beef franks are still readily available.
The Results Are In…
So, do these new franks hit the spot? Yes, they do. The Sam’s Club listing for these hot dogs currently has a 3.6-star average review, but if you investigate that further, a couple of the negative ratings don’t actually discuss the quality of the food itself. The ones that do are very positive about it. “These are grassfed. The price is awesome. I grilled some up this weekend and they were delicious,” said one review. “Thank you Sam’s for bringing more grassfed products.” Several other reviews highlighted the quality of these hot dogs, as well as their value.
Well, that settles it, then. Nathan’s Famous Grass-Fed Skinless Beef Franks are gonna be the last of the town (or the barbecue) this summer. Fire up your grill and get those hot dog buns in, because it’s heating up.
