You better watch out, you better get hype, you better make sure that you always wipe, because not only is Santa Claus allegedly coming to town, we are also getting new holiday Oreos, otherwise known as Limited Edition Oreo Festive Cookies. And y’all? They are goshdarn adorable.
New holiday Oreos? As in, different from last year’s? Wait—what were last year’s? Answers to all those questions and more after the break.

Alright now that we are all refreshed, let’s answer those questions. In years past, Oreo has released a new Oreos flavor around the holidays. Last year it was Hot Cocoa, and the year before it was Snickerdoodle. Sometimes it’s Gingerbread or Peppermint. But ever since 2018, as the holidays have drawn near, they have also released JOY! Holiday Oreos—which are normal Oreos but with red creme, plus “5 cool winter designs” on the cookies.
Last year, they released both a new Hot Cocoa flavor and the JOY! Oreos around the same time. But Oreo just announced this year’s Limited Edition Oreo Festive Cookies, and they look like they might be replacing the JOY! cookies rather than filling the new winter flavor spot. What makes me think this? Well, these new cookies will, according to Nabisco, “feature the signature Oreo chocolate cookie, topped with five unique holiday-themed embossments with cutouts and filled with dual-layered red and green colored original creme.” So, the main new things here are the second layer of creme, the fact that that second layer is green, and the fact that the cookie designs have little holes for the red creme to peek through.
One other new thing: These new Oreos will all be individually wrapped—perfect for stockings, secret Santas, or hiding all over your best friend’s apartment and car while they are away like an inappropriately timed, unsolicited Easter egg hunt. You can get them in packs of 4, 14, or 45, exclusively at Target and Walmart starting in November.
I feel like I am not properly communicating how cute the little cutouts in these holiday Oreos are. The reindeer design has a nose cutout so Rudolph can have a lil red nose, the gingerbread man has a heart-shaped cutout so he has a lil red heart, and the candy canes have a dot on them that is as red as it is inexplicable. (It might be a holly berry? Still, adorable). There will also be a penguin cookie and a snowman cookie, but I haven’t seen those yet so I have no idea if they will go for a lil penguin bowtie or a red snowman scarf or something.
Regardless, we are excited to try these and see if they are Oreo’s new holiday normal. Either way, we are sure we will still feel JOY! when we eat them. They are, in fact, Oreos, and that’s always promising.
