Are you tired of normie coffee creamers? Does half-and-half bore you half to death? Does vanilla make you want to scream, “Bean there, done that”? Is hazelnut hazel-not doing it for you anymore? Well, then you are in luck because the busy innovators over at Coffee-mate are giving us yet another wacky creamer flavor to consider swirling into our cups of coffee this summer. And no, it’s not coconut creamer meant for Dr Pepper this time, nor is it PB&J. But if you’re on the hunt for a nostalgic hit of sugar and citrus straight to the dome, look no further than the new Nestle Coffee-mate Orange Cream Pop Duo Creamer. Is that a lot of words for a product name? Yeah. But is the product so good that it simply requires that many words to describe? This remains to be seen. Let’s discuss.
Does orange creamsicle even go with coffee? What happens if I just dump the whole bottle of creamer into an ice cream maker and pray to Ben or Jerry (or the ice cream deity of your choosing)?
Okay, let’s back up a bit. Does this stuff sound like it will be good in coffee? I think, yes. In a press release, Coffee-mate describes this creamer as “featuring notes of orange and vanilla cream.” In the past, I have combined fruity syrups and creamer in coffee. Heck, I’ve even had an orange/cream/spices situation from a local coffee shop, and y’all? I was not mad about it. Not one bit. I have high hopes for this one. Plus, Coffee-mate already knows how to do creamer (it’s kind of their only thing), and all you have to do from there to ostensibly make “orange cream” is not mess up the “orange” part, and I have faith in their team that, unlike “fetch,” they can make “orange” happen (yes, Coffee-mate did release a so-so pink Mean Girls creamer last year).
Now, if you are wondering how you can get this stuff, you came to the right place, because it’s not that simple. This will not be coming out in stores. Instead, you can pick it up online at this link during the first drop, which starts at noon EST on Friday, July 12, or the second drop, which will be at the same time but on Monday, July 22. The Orange Cream Pop concoction will cost $2.17 per 16 ounce bottle (including shipping), and, according to Coffee-mate, will be a great way to celebrate National Ice Cream Day, which is coming up on July 21. As for putting this in an ice cream maker, I think I’ll stick to putting it in coffee when I get my hands on a bottle.
