There’s nothing quite like Old Bay. This seasoning blend is often conflated with Cajun seasoning, but it’s a law unto itself: Originally created in Baltimore, it’s a mixture of celery salt, celery seeds, paprika, and other spices that brings seafood to life and is at home in virtually any stew or soup you’d care to name.

A lot of Old Bay’s charm is rooted in that link to its city of origin, and the region that’s inspired its flavors. Now, it’s bringing all that home – quite literally – with two new limited-edition collectible tins that honor the place it calls home. Here’s how you can get ‘em.
Old Bay Collectible Tins
Old Bay’s new limited-edition tins were created in collaboration with the Preakness Stakes and students from the Maryland Institute College of Art (or MICA), with one tin released with each. The Preakness Stakes, a thoroughbred race that takes place annually in Maryland, celebrated its 151st year on Saturday, May 16. To honor the race, Old Bay debuted a black-eyed susan–inspired design on its tin, with the flower featuring prominently in the race’s history and pageantry.
The second tin, meanwhile, was conceived with emerging creatives from MICA, who sought to honor the history of both the seasoning blend and the area. “OLD BAY has always been more than a seasoning – it’s a symbol of place and pride,” said McCormick & Company’s VP of marketing, Giovanna DiLegge, in a press release. “Partnering with MICA celebrates Baltimore creatives and the power of design to tell local stories.” This design debuted on May 15 during an opening event for MICA’s ArtWalk.
How Can I Get My Hands On These Tins?
Well, if you’re in the Baltimore area, you’re in luck. Old Bay is selling the limited-edition tins at select local retailers – and given that we’d imagine these will turn into collector’s items in years to come, they’ll be worth snapping up if you can find them anywhere.
If you live a bit further afield, though, Old Bay is selling the collectible tins on its website. That said, they’re currently listed as out of stock (we’d imagine that people were poised and ready for the drop), and they have a “Coming Soon” sticker popped on the listing. Hey, we’ll take Old Bay at its word here – looks like more are on their way, so bookmark that page and check back when you can.
