After a recent press release, everyone was talking about Oscar Mayer’s new Maple Bourbon Bacon made with Evan Williams. And, sure, that’s definitely a press-worthy new product. Splashy. But in that same announcement, Oscar Mayer revealed that they would also be dropping an all new hot dog: Cheesy Smokehouse Stuffed Dogs. And that’s big news, too. Because we previously tasted two other Oscar Mayer’s stuffed dogs—Jalapeno Cheddar and Chili Cheese—and loved them (they received 10/10 sporks). So the expectations are high for this new flavor of cheese-stuffed dog.

This latest stuffed hot dog is stuffed with cheese that has, according to the brand, “rich smokehouse flavor.” I really don’t know what that means. But it certainly sounds good. Is it? Does this new dog live up to its predecessors? I fired up the grill to find out.

New Oscar Mayer Hot Dog!

Oscar Mayer Stuffed Dogs Cheesy Smokehouse

Pros: While I still don’t know what “smokehouse flavor” is, this stuffed hot dog definitely has a lot of rich, meaty flavor. And there is a touch of smoke, along with some hard-to-pin-down spiced flavors. The cheese keeps the dog juicy. The casing is snappy. And it’s perfectly fat and bun-sized. I made regular hot dogs and these hot dogs for dinner and my 5-year-old was all over these ones instead of the regular dogs.

Cons: The cheese is a little slick for my liking. It ends up just coming off a bit fake. But I’m pretty sensitive to goo, so you might not even notice. Also, I still don’t know what flavors I am supposed to get from “smokehouse” and I’d like a more specific description, please and thank you.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
