A a certified short king, any news that celebrates my smaller stature is, of course, seized upon with glee. And when it sits at the intersection of my height and my interest in new food news? Well, sign me up! That’s come today, in the form of a collaboration that I didn’t see coming, but which I’m claiming as validation of my short king status. Look, we need to have our fun where we can.

The collaboration in question? A team-up between baking giant Pillsbury and Chain, the American Pop-Cuisine brand founded by actor B.J. Novak. And there are some new biscuits to try.
Pillsbury x Chain: Short King Sandwich Shoppe
Pillsbury and Chain are collaborating to open the Short King Sandwich Shoppe, a limited-time pop-up which will be open at Westfield Topanga in Los Angeles from October 8 through November 6. The pop-up, according to General Mills’ press release, is a “playful tribute to Poppin’ Fresh himself,” aka a fellow food-obsessed short king, who I increasingly find kinship with. Although I’m a little taller than his 8.75 inches.
The Short King Sandwich Shoppe will be serving three chef-driven biscuit sandwiches, inspired by brunch, dinner, and dessert – and they are:
- Rise & Shine: This brunch-inspired biscuit pairs breakfast sausage, folded egg, and sharp cheddar in a Pillsbury biscuit, topped with habanero hot sauce.
- Peachy Keen Clucker: Short King has you covered for dinner here, with southern fried chicken, peach hot honey, and Hatch chili pimento cheese, all tucked into a biscuit.
- Sweet Reign: A sweet treat. Cinnamon-baked apple and clotted cream are piled onto a fennel pollen-buttered biscuit. These flavors are unexpected, and I’m here for it.
What About All Three At Once?
I mean…yeah, sure, why not?! For everyone out there who fancied sampling every one of these biscuits in a single bite – and I can’t imagine there are that many of you, but hey, I could be wrong – the Short King Sandwich Shoppe is also selling the Doughboy Deluxe. Basically, it’s all of these biscuits put together to create an 8.75-inch-tall sandwich, in honor of Mr. Doughboy himself.
If you’re not in Los Angeles, or won’t be in the next month, this pop-up may well pass you by. That said, Pillsbury’s been typically busy in the run-up to Christmas. We’ve had new Grands! Croissants, new stuffed cupcake kits, and new cinnamon rolls, with the latter two infused with festive joy.
