It’s a big season for sweet and spicy mustard, y’all. First, Heinz worked with a celebrity DJ on a fantastic chipotle honey mustard—check out my MUSTAAAAAARD review. Now, Popeye’s is bringing one of their fan-favorite dipping sauces directly to our kitchens. February must have come early because today, it’s feeling like Mardi Gras. Yep, you can now buy bottled Popeye’s Mardi Gras Mustard.

What is Mardi Gras Mustard?

Per an advertising description, Popeye’s Mardi Gras Mustard is a “creamy Creole mustard, mixed with the bold burn of horseradish.” Reviews online describe it as a sweet-and-spicy sauce on the hotter side that’s (obviously) perfect for fried chicken. Until now, the only way to get this sauce was at Popeye’s restaurants.

When and where can I stock up on this party mustard?

I would say this sauce is available now on Amazon, but it looks like the early demand was so ravenous that the first batch sold out before I could even finish this article! That said, Popeye’s Mardi Gras Mustard will be sold in select grocery stores before too long—basically, if your local grocery store sells the other two bottled Popeye’s sauces (Sweet Heat and Blackened Ranch), there’s a good chance you’ll see Mardi Gras Mustard join it on the shelf soon. (And I’m sure the Amazon listing will be restocked eventually, but who’s really out here buying mustard on the internet?)

What’s with all the fast food places selling their condiments in bottles now?

I don’t know, but I hope they keep it coming. I love Arby’s Sauce more than certain blood relatives of mine; I keep bottles stocked pretty much anywhere I might find myself eating a meal. Sure, all these fast food sauces have 99% accurate dupe recipes online, but there’s something about the real branding. Plus, the last time I used a dupe recipe, I had to fill an empty ketchup bottle with the end result and it just felt wrong.
