One thing that American-born brands love to do is tease their US-based customers with international releases that they won’t be able to get their hands on (well, unless they’re willing to book plane tickets). Want proof? KFC’s new Daredevil Zinger menu that’s only available in the UK. Mountain Dew’s blue raspberry flavor which only Australian customers can enjoy. 7-Eleven’s whipped cream sandwich that’s a Japan exclusive (and yes, we’re aware that 7-Eleven is now a Japanese company, but it started life in Texas, so we’re still using it here to make our point).

That tendency has struck yet again, with the new Nutella menu from Popeyes. The only problem is that you’ll need to be in the Philippines to try it. Here’s what they’re cooking up.

Popeyes Nutella Creations

This new trio of menu items from Popeyes offers a bunch of sweet treats flavored with the hazelnut and chocolate spread. Popeyes Philippines posted the Nutella Creations selection on Instagram in all its glory. Customers can choose from a Nutella Sundae, which appears to be a mixture of soft serve and Nutella (or at least, Nutella-flavored syrup); a Nutella Float, a milk-based Nutella-flavored beverage topped with more soft serve and Nutella; and Nutella Biscuits, which top that Popeyes staple with a smear of the nutty spread. We’re down for all three of them.

These new items have been out for a couple of weeks now, and so far, they seem to be getting some good responses from customers and foodies alike. The Nutella Float is gaining particular traction, with people pointing out that it’s gonna be great for summer. Sadly, though, people who aren’t in the Philippines will have to make do with trying to mock one up at home. Hey, I think it can be done.

An International Outlook

Although Popeyes has made its name on offering Louisiana-style fried chicken, it’s now well and truly an international business. It has almost 50 stores in the Philippines, so the launch of an exclusive menu in the country makes a lot of sense. It’s also got a significant footprint in the UK (hey, that’s me!), with over 100 restaurants here. Its expansion doesn’t look like it’s letting up any time soon.

Nutella, meanwhile, is making moves of its own. Its brand-new spread, Nutella Peanut, has just launched in the US, marking the first major release by the brand in a very long time. Earlier this year, Nutella and Kinder Bueno ice creams also reached US stores, causing much rejoicing. People just can’t get enough of that combo of hazelnut and chocolate, and you know what? We do not blame them one bit. Maybe it’s time for us all to book flights to Manila.
