Let’s talk about what’s going on in the breakfast world. It’ll probably come as no surprise that, essentially, it’s basically all about protein – and while certain breakfast cereal brands, like Kashi, have been leaning more into gut health, everyone else still seems singularly focused on amping up how many grams you can get first thing in the day. Magic Spoon has just unveiled its protein oatmeal, while Quaker has announced its new Shake & Go beverages, combining oats, protein, and drinkability.

Hot on the heels of that last one, though, Quaker looks like it’s coming for Magic Spoon’s offer to the oatmeal world – and given that it’s one of the major players in the oatmeal game, we’d expect it to be making a big splash with this new-ish item.

Quaker High Protein Instant Oatmeal

According to @candyhunting, Quaker’s new High Protein Instant Oatmeal is now heading to stores, in two flavors. This new oatmeal option was announced, somewhat quietly, back in May, when the World Cup was just a twinkle in all of our eyes – and when the brand was named the official breakfast of the tournament. Its High Protein Instant Oatmeal was detailed as part of a flurry of new products, but all we knew was that it’d be dropping in July.

Well, July is now here, and so are the oats. Quaker’s new High Protein Instant Oatmeal has 22 grams per serving, 10 more than the majority of its current Protein Instant Oatmeal options. They’ll be available in two flavors, Banana Chocolate and Blueberries & Cream, and get their protein from whey protein isolate and milk protein concentrate. By @candyhunting’s account, the Banana Chocolate flavor has been more widely spotted so far, showing up in Hy-Vee, Metro Market, and Walmart – while the Blueberries & Cream flavor has so far just been spotted at the latter. We’re just in the initial rollout stage here, though; they’ll be around, I’m sure.

Any Reviews So Far?

Alas, they’re pretty scant. The only one I could find was a comment on @candyhunting’s post about the new flavors: “Not a fan of it heated, but overnight oats,” said one person, followed by a thumbs-up emoji. My main worry is if these are going to have that chalky, overly thick quality that whey-reinforced oats can often have. Hopefully, Quaker has figured out how not to make that happen, but I’ve been let down by these kinds of breakfasts before. Only time — and customer responses — will tell.
