More ripples are being felt from last week’s coverage on the recalls related to California Dairies powdered milk. This week, the FDA has made links to specialty drink mixes that were made with the powdered milk in their production line. Because these mixes would then be used to make drinks in a restaurant setting, anyone with a heightened sensitivity to salmonella and its effects should be extra cautious. At least until we’re on the other side of things.

As you can imagine, that takes up a lot of this week’s news, but there are still some noteworthy recalls to mention that have made their way across the country. Let’s get into things.

Specialty Drink Mixes – Salmonella

The new additions to the powdered milk coverage are all associated with specialty drink mixes. The specific list of brands associated with the use of this recalled powdered milk are Angel Specialty Products, Royal Gold, Boba Time, Fanale, and Denda. Already mixed products that could contain the powdered milk are any matcha, green tea, caramel lattes, milk tea, and cappuccino mixes that you get at a cafe.

The trouble in tracking this one is that it’s estimated that the recalled product has made its way into 25 states. If you are worried that anything in your home has been affected, the FDA has published a thorough list of affected products. You can identify a recalled product by finding the lot code on the packaging and seeing if the FDA has listed it on their informational page. At your local coffee shop, ask if they’re currently using any of the listed products.

Boner Bears Chocolate – Prescription Drug Ingredient

I really wish I was making this up. The aptly named “Boner Bears Chocolate” has been recalled for having sildenafil in it – an active ingredient in Viagra. As this was not declared on the product label, it qualifies the chocolate for a recall. Regardless of the intended use for the actual bars, use of sildenafil may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. The lot number associated with this recall is BB21125, so if you have any Boner chocolate in your cabinet, be sure to double check when it was made.

Whole Foods Market Minestrone Soup – Shrimp

Kettle Cuisine of Lynn, MA is recalling 24oz cups of Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup which may contain undeclared shrimp. The recalled retail cups of soup were distributed to the following states: AL, CT, DC, FL, GA, MA, MD, ME, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA in Whole Foods retail stores, as well as nationwide through online sales on the Whole Foods and Amazon website. The recalled product is packaged in a 24oz, clear plastic cup marked with Lot Code: 1762181 with a Use By date of 05/27/26 on the top rim of the cup.
