One thing we don’t have a lot of over here in the UK around Christmas time is great snack mixes. Sure, we might get the odd offer from a supermarket that combines a couple of different crunchy bits – some nuts and pretzels, maybe – but nothing like the sweet-salty, candy-forward, multifaceted snack mixes in the US. I think it’s a crying shame. The more flavors, the better, in my opinion! And yes, putting a snack mix together isn’t that hard, but it’s Christmas; I don’t wanna do that kind of work.

So it’s with envy that I discuss Sam’s Club’s latest snack mix today, which is an appropriately festive hodgepodge of flavors that sound right at home in a bowl on your coffee table. And so far, it’s causing a lot of excitement – but does it stand up to scrutiny?
Sam’s Club Jingle ‘N Mingle Sweet Snack Mix
This week, Sam’s Club-focused content creators @samsclubfoodreview and @samsclubfavorites have both spotted its new Jingle ‘N Mingle Sweet Snack Mix in their local stores. And there’s plenty of mingling going on in it, even if the jingling sound of bells might not come through in every bite. Each bag contains a combination of regular shortbread cookies, frosted shortbread cookies, graham cookies, milk chocolate nonpareils, chocolate candies, powdered sugar-dusted chocolate & peanut butter cereal, and drizzled pretzels. There’s a lot happening in these 20-ounce bags, which cost just shy of $8.
News of this new snack mix was greeted with much festive jubilation from Sam’s Club shoppers. @samsclubfoodreview’s initial post about it received well over 120 comments, with most of them carrying the sentiment “give them to me now.” And I get it. You get a lot of variety here for the price…it’s just a shame that it looks like Sam’s Club hasn’t quite nailed its ratios.
What Do You Mean?
Well, @samsclubfoodreview followed up its first post about the snack mix with a breakdown and taste-test of what was actually inside, and apparently, these bags are just too heavy on a couple of components – namely, the shortbread, graham cookies, and pretzels. The other items, meanwhile, were a little few and far between, making a fairly uneven eating experience. That said, apparently the individual flavors are all there, and the mix itself is very tasty; it’s just unbalanced. Anyone well-versed in the art of diffusing arguments over who took the last piece of a certain candy flavor in a variety box will likely know where this might go.
Still, this snack mix is pleasingly varied (even more so than Reese’s new festive mix), and it feels like there’s something for everyone here. It might just take a little rationing, is all.
