We’ve had a lot of fun seeing how food companies, brands, and retailers have framed their July 4 celebrations, offers, and items over the last few weeks. The majority of them have gone for a down-the-line approach, with red, white, and blue items from the likes of Welch’s Fruit Snacks, Little Debbie (who got in there waaaay earlier than a lot of others), and more besides. Others, though, have gone for not quite a subtle take, but one that’s slightly less obvious. Well, until you think about it, that is.

That’s the case over at Sam’s Club right now, with its limited-time sushi platter that captures one half of the stars and stripes. Let’s take a look.
Sam’s Club Sushi Star Platter
Sam’s Club has quietly switched up its Member’s Mark by FujiSan Sushi Roll Combo Tray, giving it a gently patriotic vibe. The switch-up is on the tray itself: It’s replaced some of its rectangular trays with a star-shaped version, which would look way better as a centerpiece on a July 4 table if you’re looking for some easy appetizers (although we beg you to serve them pretty much immediately out of the fridge, and not leave them in the sun for too long – warm sushi can be a recipe for disaster).
Sam’s Club made this move a few weeks ago, with store Instagram accounts posting about the change. However, it’s taken a little while for us to catch wind of that over here – and we know we’re cutting it a bit close, what with July 4 being tomorrow, but we had to discuss it. They’re fun!
What’s Inside?
Sam’s Club’s star-shaped platter has the same 20 pieces that you’d get in its regular, rectangular one, and you get varieties in each. There are tiger rolls, dragon rolls, California crunch rolls, and Walton rolls, all made with imitation crab and with various seasonings and toppings. The tray doesn’t contain any of the new options we talked about when discussing what was changing at Sam’s Club in 2026 – back in March, we examined its push towards better-quality in-store sushi and new roll varieties – but it still looks good.
As is probably very obvious, though, these trays are limited-time only. Once they’re gone, they’re gone! Well, the sushi will remain, but in a dull, boring, star-less rectangle shape — and come on. Where’s the fun in any of that? That’s right, nowhere, I say.
