A Classic Soda Company Has Entered The Prebiotic Game

Prebiotic soda is everywhere. Everywhere, I tell ya! That’s been the case for a while now, but it’s gotten to the point where Walmart has started making its own, and when the private labels start getting in on all the fun, you know we’ve reached a new level of popularity. That isn’t stopping soda companies with an already demonstrated and esteemed lineage from trying their hand, though. Last year, Pepsi launched prebiotic versions of two of its drinks, and rumor has it that Coca-Cola is going to be doing the same thing.

In between those two, though, comes Jarritos. The Mexican soda brand, which we last checked in with in July upon the release of its Margaritos Variety Pack, has a new prebiotic soda headed to Walmart. Take that, Bettergoods. Let’s talk about it. 

Sana Sana By Jarritos

Jarritos’ prebiotic soda line, Sana Sana, is now on its way to Walmart shelves nationwide, according to @candyhunting. If you recognise that name already, it’s because Jarritos actually announced these back in March. An article in Mexico Business News discussing the new drinks also explained the origins of the name: “The name Sana Sana references the popular Mexican rhyme Sana sana colita de rana” – which is often sung when kids bump their knees or scrape their heads – “linking the product to cultural familiarity while positioning it within the wellness category.” 

Sana Sana was first launched via e-commerce platforms and was available on Amazon and other digital distribution channels – and over the summer, the new drinks collected a bunch of positive customer reviews. People love that the drinks aren’t overly sweet, and the good level of carbonation in each can – and the fact that each one has 10 grams of fiber doesn’t hurt, either. Now, though, they have pride of place in Walmart stores nationwide.

Sana Sana by Jarritos comes in Guava, Mandarin, and Strawberry flavors. Each drink contains just four grams of sugar (and with no high-fructose corn syrup) and comes flavored with botanical extracts. I have to say, I really love the flavor options that Sana Sana has launched with. They’re simple enough to be appealing to pretty much anyone, but still with a nice level of distinctiveness in what is becoming an incredibly crowded market. Jarritos’ decades-long history as a soda producer and hard-won brand loyalty won’t hurt it, either. Hopefully, this one will stick around for a while.
