Yes, in addition to wine and cereal, Snoop Dogg makes ice cream now. The rapper-turned-mogul recently launched Dr. Bombay Ice Cream, named for his Bored Ape NFT/sidekick. (The Dr. Bombay label also includes a line of Sketchers and other branded clothing.) Sold at Walmart, Winn Dixie, and GoPuff (among others), the ice cream pints are boldly designed with leopard-print lids and swirly, brightly colorful labels. (No Bored Ape in sight.) Is this NFT-inspired ice cream just a publicity stunt or is Snoop Dogg Dr. Bombay Ice Cream actually good? We tried three different Dr. Bombay Ice Cream flavors to find out. Here’s our Dr. Bombay Ice Cream review.

Dr. Bombay Syrupy Waffle Sundaze

Dr. Bombay Syrupy Waffle Sundaze

This is a totally revolutionary ice cream flavor executed at a high level of competency. It really tastes like waffles, butter, and maple syrup!

Pros: The base waffle-flavored ice cream is so creamy—no ice chips or air pockets here—and it tastes like buttermilk waffles. The brown butter syrup infuses everything with that exact flavor. It really tastes like melted butter and the best maple syrup. And then there are the little waffle pieces, which are actual waffle pieces! They’re chewy and fun.
Cons: If I was forced to say something less than glowing about this Dr. Bombay Ice Cream, I would say the waffle pieces might be a little hard for some people. They could be slightly softer. But that’s quibbling. This ice cream is great.

Dr. Bombay Iced Out Orange Cream

Dr. Bombay Iced Out Orange Cream

If you love a creamsicle, you will adore this orange and vanilla Dr. Bombay Ice Cream flavor. The mix of icy orange sherbet and smooth vanilla ice cream is nostalgic but also unique.

Pros: The orange sherbet tastes like orange Fanta. So, if you’re big into orange soda, this is the frozen treat for you. I like that they chose to make the orange swirl into an icy sherbet rather than a creamy one, because the contrast in textures is so delightful. The vanilla is up there with some of the best vanilla ice cream we’ve tasted; it tastes like vanilla bean and it’s the perfect foil to the zingy sherbet.
Cons: If you were hoping for an orange flavor that tastes like real, actual orange, you will be out of luck. But, really, there’s not a lot to complain about with this Dr. Bombay Ice Cream!

Dr. Bombay Cocoa Cream Cookie Dream

Dr. Bombay Cocoa Cream Cookie Dream

If I hadn’t tasted the other two Dr. Bombay Ice Cream flavors before trying this one, I might have been more excited about it. It’s a really good chocolate ice cream and a really fun idea! But the other two are just so good and this one paled in comparison.

Pros: The base chocolate milk ice cream is very good. It really does taste like chocolate milk, not just chocolate ice cream. And the idea of a cookie dough swirl rather than cookie dough chunks is brilliant. In theory, it means you’ll get a little nibble of soft chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in every bite.

Cons: There isn’t enough of a chocolate chip cookie dough swirl! I managed to find a few bites, but I really had to dig for it. With better distribution, this could be a really great ice cream.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
