While protein continues to be placed into every food imaginable, in a somewhat mercenary, vaguely needless manner at times (we don’t think anyone was begging for protein candy, but hey, it’s here), we might just be seeing a boost in food manufacturers including something else – something most of us actually need more of. I’m talking about fiber. It’s too early to call, but the release of Kashi’s new granola and the snack we’re about to talk about within a few days of each other makes me think we might have a fiber-forward future ahead of us in the coming months.

But enough beating around the bush. Let’s talk about Sola Bites.

Sola Bites

Sola, the low-carb bread brand that earned two spots on our best keto bagels list a few years ago, has just announced a new snack: Sola Bites. These bites take its bagels and flip them inside out. These peanut butter-stuffed mini bagel balls contain, as you’d expect from Sola, only four grams of net carbs per serving – but they also have 17 grams of prebiotic fiber and 11 grams of complete protein, as well as no added sugar (they’re sweetened with agave inulin and erythritol), artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Sola Bites will be available in two flavors: Strawberry and Peanut Butter, and Grape and Peanut Butter.

So we’re not QUITE out of the high-protein woods yet, but the emphasis here clearly is as much on the fiber, too – and that more rounded nutritional profile is clearly something that Sola considered. “Shoppers today want more protein, more fiber, and more nutrition in every bite,” said the president of Spring Foods (the company that owns the Sola brand), Kevin Brouillette, in a press release. “It’s part of a broader shift in how people eat and think about wellness – and younger shoppers especially are snacking instead of sitting down to three square meals to reach their health goals.” Hey, why choose one or the other?

Exclusive!

If you’re keen to try Sola Bites and add them to your keto snacks list, then we have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that they’re being launched exclusively in one retailer; the good news is that retailer is the biggest one in the country. Yes: It’s Walmart! These bites are on sale now – I found them online for about $7 per pack, but prices may vary from store to store.
