Everything’s weird. It’s weird! The food world is weird. I know we talk a lot about the strangeness of protein being added to every food under the sun here, so much so that it’s almost started to become background noise – but then, a new one comes along, crashing through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man, and it makes us do a double-take yet again. Today, that’s come in the form of protein candy. Sour watermelon protein candy. Now, you can get your sugary fix and get your gains simultaneously.

Like we said – weird. But let’s discuss it anyway.

Bounce Sour Watermelon Protein Candy

Bounce Nutrition has recently announced that it will be adding a Sour Watermelon flavor to its protein candy line. “What’s that?” you say. “There’s a line?” Oh, yeah. There’s a line! Well – it’s not so much a line as one other flavor. The release of Bounce’s new Sour Watermelon protein candy alerted us to the fact that this nutrition brand already sells Birthday Cake, Churro, and Tropical Twist-flavored Protein Bites, which are little gummy cubes filled with protein. The sour candy option, though, is its first candy-focused offer in its line.

Bounce’s Sour Watermelon Protein Candy doesn’t just contain a meager amount of the nutrient: Each pack has 20 grams of protein, 140 calories, and nine net grams of carbs. The candy gets its protein content from rice protein, and it gets its flavor from maltitol (a sugar alcohol and substitute), natural cane sugar, monk fruit, and artificial and natural flavors. Every bag has ten protein bites, or gummies, or candies. Whatever you wanna call them.

And…Will They Be Any Good?

Given that these candies have just been released, early reviews are a little few and far between, but if its other flavors are anything to go by, Bounce does a good job with its sweet protein treats. The other options mentioned above are currently rocking a five-star review rating on Bounce’s website, with people praising their macros and their convenience. The Tropical Twist flavor gets particular props, too – and given that’s gonna be the closest one to the Sour Watermelon, it’s a good sign.

It should be pointed out, too, that Bounce isn’t the only company making protein candy (there is quite literally another brand called Protein Candy) – so, is this the next step in protein innovation? Is protein candy gonna be the next big thing? Will Trader Joe’s be making gummies for gains? Watch this space.
