Sonic's Just Dropped A New July 4 Slush

Another day, another July 4 food item. Sorry if I sound a little fatigued here, but it’s been a busy old time on the old Independence Day food front! The semiquincentennial of the United States is drawing ever closer, and new releases to mark that have been nonstop: Yesterday, we were talking about Disney’s July 4 foods; the week before, we were talking about the new red, white, and blue Fruit Roll-Ups; and so on. In short, there’s been a lot.

And now, Sonic’s getting in on the action! The restaurant chain has just dropped its new July 4 Slush, and it’s also got a new mini-menu of Tropical items coming with it. Let’s take a look at what it’s got in store. Or, in stores. Hehe.

Red, White & Blue Slush Float

First up is Sonic’s Red, White & Blue Slush Float, which, I must say, sounds pretty good (if not unbelievably sweet). This slush is a combination of blue raspberry slush, vanilla soft serve, and real strawberries finishing it off, and it’s got a nice, tri-tone layered appearance.

What’s also nice is its price: According to its press release, Sonic’s Red, White & Blue Slush Float will be just $2.50 for the whole summer. Sonic is also serving this drink in limited-edition cups featuring designs with landmarks from around the US. The chain previously came for Starbucks with its drinks… and now it’s coming for the float world too. We respect it.

As well as aforementioned slush, Sonic has also released two new items in celebration of summer – and guess what? One of them is also a slush! We’ve got a Tropical Cream Slush, made with pineapple, coconut, vanilla soft serve, and pineapple pieces, and a Tropical Heat Sonic Smasher, a double-patty bacon cheeseburger topped with a jalapeño pineapple glaze. Now, c’mon. Doesn’t that all sound good?

And When Can I Get All Of These New Items?

Well, if you have the Sonic app, you can get them today! Yes, today! Sonic is offering early access to these new items for its app users from May 26, and everyone else will have to wait until next Monday, June 1, to try them out. So, if you want the rosy glow this weekend of having tried a couple of new food items before the rest of the country, you know what to do. Off to the App Store with you.

Personally, I like the direction that Sonic’s going here. It’s vibrant, it’s summery, it’s adventurous without feeling as though it’s innovation for innovation’s sake. Plus, any burger that has pineapple in it is a winner in my book.
