New Spring Sprinkles Reese’s Cups Are Not Welcome in Our Baskets

It feels like just yesterday that I was reviewing the Valentine’s Day Reese’s Red Velvet Cups. Here I am, not even two weeks later, reviewing the new Easter Reese’s Cups! Time flies when you’re having fun. (That, or the two holidays are so close together that they’re practically the same holiday when it comes to seasonal product scheduling.) I covered this new sprinkle-filled Reese’s innovation back in December; let’s see if these new Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups live up to the middling expectations I laid out in that article.

New Reese’s Cup!

Spring Sprinkles Reese’s Cups

Pros: Everyone I offered a portion of this new Reese’s Big Cup to was happy with the flavor of the product and described the texture as almost Butterfinger-esque. (This comparison reminded me that Reese’s actually did release a Crunchy Reese’s Cup a few years ago—let’s bring that back for another run.) I said this in my review of the Red Velvet Reese’s Cups, but it bears repeating here: It’s really hard to mess up a Reese’s Cup.

Cons: That said, they got damn close to messing up a Reese’s Cup. In my initial news piece about this new Reese’s Cup release, I wrote, “I’m hoping for a softer feel rather than a hardened candy sprinkle.” I did not get my wish! The sprinkles inside the cups are hard and very jarring in contrast to the milk chocolate coating and peanut butter filling. It’s one thing to add a little texture to make things interesting, but this is annoying. I was only able to find the Spring Sprinkles in the Big Cup format, but I can’t imagine this new Reese’s flavor being any better as a miniature. Honestly, I imagine it’d be worse, since a higher percentage of the total treat would be sprinkles.

Where can I find these Easter Reese’s Cups for myself?

Everywhere! Spring Sprinkles Reese’s Cups aren’t exclusive to any specific retailer, so you should be able to find these wherever you find Reese’s Cups. You’ll have better finding the miniatures in the Easter/spring candy section of grocery stores and “hypermarkets.” The Spring Sprinkles Big Cups should have plenty of placement at gas stations, convenience stores, and other single-serving candy stores. (I found mine at Sheetz.)

Are there any other Spring/Easter Reese’s products worth buying?

Along with the two cup sizes of Reese’s Spring Sprinkles, you can expect to find all sorts of ambiguously-secular Reese’s Easter products. If you’re trying to fill a basket, Reese’s Eggs and Bunnies are available in sizes ranging from “what you’d expect” to “way too big.” Be mindful of who you’re gifting these Easter Reese’s to, though; my inner circle is made up of both die-hard shape enjoyers and classic cup fanatics. I’m a cup purist myself, but I’m dating someone on the other side of the fence; we’re working through it.

  • Haven’t tried new ones of course, but really liked the cups with sugar cookies and another favorite is the lava, fudgy substance (yum) on bottom. Hope they keep making them.
