I have to hold my hands up and admit that I don’t totally hate it when food companies bring out seasonal items way earlier than they probably should. Look, I love the holidays. I love looking forward to things. And yes, I know that I should probably live in the present a little more, but I can’t resist the allure of a fall or winter flavor – even when it comes months in advance.

But honestly, even I can recognize that having pumpkin spice flavor items in stores in the middle of JUNE is slightly beyond the pale. And that’s exactly what’s happened this year, thanks to Starbucks.
It’s Not Even That Hot Yet…
Perhaps the year’s first sighting of a pumpkin spice flavor product has come courtesy of @candyhunting, who posted that they found Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte Creamer in Target yesterday. @candyhunting also confirmed that the brand’s Almondmilk & Oatmilk Pumpkin Spice creamers would also be landing imminently.
Now, while this is clearly very early for PSL products to land, Starbucks has previously claimed that pumpkin spice season starts a little earlier than most of us think. Last year, it declared August 26 the start of it all. Well, it might say that, but let’s be real: Late August is still summer. I don’t really reach for PSL flavors until October, when there’s a real chill in the air. So by my estimations, these creamers are arriving approximately four MONTHS before they’re strictly needed (unless you like homemade pumpkin spice lattes when the sun’s highest in the sky – in which case, the world is now your oyster).
Time Stands Still For No-One
In the comments of @candyhunting’s post, people were as confused about the early arrival of this creamer as I was. “Dang, I still sometimes get a springtime chill in the morning,” said one person, who went on to say, “to be fair, the pumpkin spice lovers are definitely not complaining.” Another confirmed this sentiment, saying, “I’m ready, Chobani needs to follow shortly *Pulls out McCormick Pumpkin spice finishing sugar*.”
To be fair, we agree with that last comment, on a brand level if nothing else: When we did a taste-test of the best pumpkin spice creamers, Starbucks didn’t make the list, while Chobani’s came second. Now that all bets are off timing-wise, we’ll wait to see if it follows suit.
