The Best Things We Ate This Week (Jan. 30-Feb. 3)

Every week, the Sporked team sidles up to the tasting table and sets out to find the absolute best of the best packaged foods, the gold hidden in the grocery aisles. Each week we’ll bring you five standouts that truly rocked our taste buds and changed our lives—or at least our buying habits. Here are the best things we ate this week.

Hidden Valley Coleslaw Dressing & Topping

Hidden Valley Coleslaw Dressing & Topping is a wonderful product. It sounds weird, I know, but trust me. A bag of coleslaw mix and some squirts of this would make a better-than-restaurant-quality coleslaw. Take that and toss in some shredded rotisserie chicken and you have a very tasty lunch. I think this product is much more useful than people give it credit for.

Strong Roots Cauliflower Hash Brown

My girlfriend makes us go to Sprouts just to buy these cauliflower hash browns. That’s right! This product is so good that I go to a specific grocery store just to get it. The insides are creamy. The outside is crunchy. It feels like the love child of a McDonald’s hash brown and a cauliflower tater tot. These don’t even need ketchup.

Zapp’s Mesquite Bar-B-Que New Orleans Kettle Style Potato Chips

BBQ is not the first thing I think of as a lifelong Zapp’s lover, but Zapp’s Mesquite Bar-B-Que New Orleans Kettle Style Potato Chips are unreal. They taste like they were literally cooked in a gigantic smoker with a bunch of pork butts. They are supremely flavorful and super unexpected.

Three Little Pigs Uncured Bacon and Swiss Egg Bites

These Three Little Pigs Uncured Bacon and Swiss Egg Bites are better than the Starbucks egg bites. They are bouncy and cheesy and light. The chunks of bacon are large and salty. These are the perfect breakfast on their own or could be slapped between two english muffins for something even heartier. It’s our new go-to breakfast.

Mee Krob Thai Rice Noodle Snacks

This might be the most flavorful Trader Joe’s product based off an international food I’ve ever had. While I love TJ’s for cheese and frozen hash brown patties, I often find their versions of celebrated foods from other countries to be less tasty versions of the real deal. These Mee Krob Thai Rice Noodle Snacks, however, are incredible. You get real notes of lemongrass, tomato, chili, basil, and lime. They’re pleasantly oily. The texture is crunchy without being hard. Go buy these before they completely sell out.
