I want to preface this review of the new Tillamook ice cream bars by saying that we love Tillamook ice cream. It’s light and so creamy. It’s high quality. The Peaches & Cream flavor is a dang revelation. We know the brand is extremely capable of producing truly wow-worthy ice cream. And we will continue to get excited about new Tillamook flavors and frozen treats…even if the new Tillamook ice cream bars are a bit of a shrug. What happened? I have some theories. Let’s get into our official reviews of all four flavors of Tillamook’s first foray into ice cream bars.

Tillamook Vanilla Bean Really Creamy Ice Cream Bars

Tillamook Vanilla Bean Really Creamy Ice Cream Bars

Pros: Across the board, the crackly chocolate coating on these ice cream bars is good. It’s harder and thicker than the chocolate on Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars, but the milk chocolate flavor is excellent. The vanilla ice cream below the chocolate coating is fluffy and soft, like Tillamook ice cream typically is.

Cons: Here’s my main critique across the board: The chocolate coating overpowers the ice cream flavor. And, since the bars are on the smaller side of things, you end up getting chocolate in every bite. There’s really no way to taste the ice cream on its own. You really have to strain to taste any bit of vanilla bean in this bar.

Tillamook Cookies & Cream Really Creamy Ice Cream Bars

Pros: There are sizable bits of chewy cookie in the cookies and cream ice cream—I like that. It’s fun to have a variety of textures in an ice cream bar. Also, I do like the form factor of these bars. There’s a little nubbin of chocolate on the top that makes these bars look hand-dipped. A nice touch.

Cons: Once again, the chocolate coating dominates the eating experience. If it wasn’t for the cookie bits, I’d never know this was any different from the vanilla bar.

Tillamook Mudslide Really Creamy Ice Cream Bars

Pros: If you love chocolate, like, really love chocolate, then you’ll like this ice cream bar. It tastes like chocolate covered chocolate ice cream. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

Cons: I wish there was something other than chocolate in the mix. The packaging says there are chocolate chips in the ice cream, but I didn’t get any. Even that bit of texture would help give this bar some dimension. More chips! More texture! More something!

Tillamook Mint Chocolate Chip Really Creamy Ice Cream Bars

Tillamook Ice Cream Bar!

Tillamook Mint Chocolate Chip Really Creamy Ice Cream Bars

Pros: You can actually taste the mint chip ice cream in this mint chip ice cream bar! It’s creamy and refreshing and perhaps a little firmer than the other flavors. It doesn’t taste like toothpaste, it tastes like vibrant, fresh mint ice cream. Also, I feel like I don’t see mint chip ice cream bars all that often. It’s a great option on a hot day.

Cons: There’s still too much chocolate! And, at the same time, there’s not enough chocolate chips. But if you’re going to get any of Tillamook’s ice cream bars, this is the one to take home.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
