People who regularly shop at Trader Joe’s love Trader Joe’s Mini Sheet Cakes. They’re versatile, extremely moist (really, really moist, guys), and even though they’re “mini,” they contain around six modest servings, perfect for a few friends to pair with a pint of ice cream during a romcom rewatch. But there’s another way you could be eating these petite little cakes…and it’s a pretty cool hack for people who can’t bake to save their lives.
Buy a few Trader Joe’s Mini Sheet Cakes and stack. them. up.
Okay, picture it. A special occasion arises at the last minute—a birthday or baby shower you almost forgot—and you’re on the hook to bring a dessert. Sure, you could grab a few Trader Joe’s Mini Sheet Cakes and set them out on a table and everyone will enjoy their little slice of soft, frosted goodness—or you could grab a few Trader Joe’s Mini Sheet Cakes and turn them into one fancy layer cake. Just do this:
Walk right past the boxed cake mix and get three or four of TJ’s mini sheet cakes. You can grab a full set of one flavor or mix and match for a marble cake vibe. Hot tip: Trader Joe’s has a new Cookies ‘n Cream Mini Sheet Cake at the moment and it’s pretty stellar, so make sure to snag at least one of those
Dress it up or leave it naked.
If you’re a Milk Bar fan, you can just plop your layers together and smear the existing frosting around to achieve that crumb coat look. Or buy a few canisters of premade frosting and give the cake a whole new look. OR you can also whip up your own simple cake frosting with some butter, milk, powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla extract (we can direct you toward the best one, don’t worry). Add edible flours or pipe on some flourishes, and no one will know you didn’t slave over this cake.
