Oh, Wawa. Somehow, you’ve become a gas station and a destination for anyone visiting the East Coast. People literally light up when they talk about visiting you (a gas station). Sometimes, it’s the best part of a person’s whole day (visiting a gas station). I’m not quite sure how you’ve done it (convinced people that you, a gas station, are a five star fine dining establishment), but you definitely have my respect. If I had to guess, though, I’d say your beverage selection plays a huge role. Thirsty or not, the best Wawa drinks are really worth banging an illegal U-ey for.

I grew up in Florida (did you know that? Do I…talk about that enough?), so I can say that Wawa’s popularity is pretty deserved. The convenience store landscape was much grimmer before Wawa expanded to Florida in 2012. I do think some things—like, I’m sorry, their subs—are a little overhyped. But when it comes to self-serve coffee, specialty drinks, slushies, and packaged beverages, they really do deliver. Here’s a quick list of some of the best drinks at  Wawa, aka the Ritz Carlton of gas stations, that I spotted on a recent visit.

Toasted Caramel Crunch Iced Coffee

No, I haven’t tried Wawa’s Toasted Caramel Crunch Iced Coffee myself, but I really want to—I’ve just heard it’s incredibly sweet, which I have to be in the mood for. It features regular sweet caramel and a salted caramel drizzle, with crunchy crème brûlée flakes on top (sugar; it’s basically crunchy sugar). You can order it hot, iced, or frozen; the Wawa is your oyster. Be warned: This drink is not for the weak. If you sneer at sweet coffee blends, opt for one of their other iced (or frozen!) specialty drinks with fewer colorful adjectives in the title. Most of the best Wawa drinks are pretty sweet, though.

Cuban Hot Coffee

Wawa’s Cuban hot coffee got me through some long, studious nights in college. It would be 11 p.m. on a Wednesday, and I’d walk over (it was a block from my apartment) for a cup of Cuban and a big bag of beef jerky. It’s amazing I’m still alive. The first sip of Wawa’s Cuban blend is always so bold, an instant jolt to the soul. The flavor is deep and a little smoky; it lingers on your palate. Go ahead and fish those quarters out of your car’s console, because you can fill up a giant 24 oz cup of this from the self serve and put whatever creamer you desire in it (hazelnut, French vanilla, Irish cream, etc.) for under $3.

Wawa Cookies & Cream Milk

Having a bad day? Find a Wawa, buy some Oreos, and dunk them in Wawa’s Cookies & Cream Milk. You might not feel better about yourself, but that sugar high will hit and then, well, who cares if you found out the guy you’ve been dating for a month has an ex that looks exactly like you? You’re eating a cookie dunked in cookies and cream milk. Life is meaningless anyway. I may or may not be speaking from experience here. Anyway, between you and me: If I wasn’t mildly lactose intolerant, Wawa’s little bottled flavored milks would be my kryptonite. I’m not proud of it, but in an alternate universe where my body can tolerate dairy, I just know that I would (*shudder*) be an adult milk-drinker. Instead, I have friends and a life. God really does work in mysterious ways…

Body Armor Strawberry Banana

Spotted: Sporked’s #1 favorite hydration beverage, sitting nice and pretty in Wawa’s refrigerated section. (Plus, next to all that Body Armor, they have the new Prime flavors we liked, too.) If anyone reading this is currently on a road trip, buy this. It’s delicious and hydrating and the closest thing to a smoothie that water can come to. In case, you know, you’re torn between ordering one of Wawa’s specialty coffee drinks or an actual smoothie, which they also sell. Why choose between the best drinks at Wawa when you can have it all?

Wawa Mango Juice Blend

This is one of the best Wawa drinks I’ve ever tried—and it might not be at every Wawa, since I couldn’t find an official product page online. (Though feel free to put a stop to my blatant misinformation in the comments.) But I found these bare plastic, fresh-looking cups of mango juice (plus guava juice and lemonade) on the grab-and-go shelf and couldn’t resist buying one. They look like this, if you’re curious. The mango blend has a mellow, lightly sweet flavor and tastes homemade. Freshly squeezed juice from your local gas station? That’s Wawa for you.
