The New Blue Raspberry Slurpee Drumstick Exists, But Should It?

Earlier this month, social media snack-vertiser Markie Devo broke the news to the world that there was a new exclusive Drumstick flavor based on… a Blue Raspberry Slurpee? When I saw exactly what this flavor entailed, I knew I had to get my hands on 2024’s third-strangest crossover (just behind Sour Patch Kids Oreos and a yet-to-be-announced drink coming later this year).

New Drumstick Flavor!

Blue Raspberry Slurpee Drumstick

According to the label, this Drumstick is made up of “creamy vanilla with a blue raspberry layer, topped with blue razz sauce ripples & candy bits.” What the label doesn’t tell you is that there is still a light layer of chocolate inside the cone itself—a classic Drumstick feature. If you want to pick one up yourself, head down to your nearest 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes location. Otherwise, read on for my divided thoughts on this dairy disaster.

Pros: While I was initially worried about the minor flood of blue raspberry sauce on top, the overall flavor was right in the sweet spot. The ice cream itself is made up of thick layers of blue raspberry, vanilla, and a swirl once you get into the cone. That vanilla center is the ice cream equivalent of a highway rest stop; I’m glad it was there when I needed it. My cone didn’t have any of the advertised candy bits and I’m not complaining; adding that kind of texture to an otherwise super-creamy dessert might have done more harm than good.

Cons: I liked this new Drumstick flavor enough to finish it, but I still don’t understand why it exists. The blue raspberry ice cream is enjoyable, but I’m not sure the Drumstick format is the best way to present it for the first time. And, this is a weird complaint, but I sincerely didn’t remember how large the original size of Drumsticks were. Much like mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, I definitely prefer the chocolate-to-everything-else ratio of the smaller Drumstick. Above all, I have to ask… Why didn’t they just make Slurpee Push-Up Pops?
