What’s Going on with Trader Joe’s New Mini Totes? Here’s a Sneak Peek

The mini totes at Trader Joe’s are back – again. These tiny, somewhat impractical bags have weirdly become one of the supermarket’s biggest draws, thanks to a combination of virality and cuteness (and we love cuteness – if that was in any doubt, we’ve literally just been talking about Tillamook’s new cheese plushies). Hence, whenever TJ’s teases a new drop of its mini totes, we’re all ears.

Well, that time has come around once more. We’ve now got a sneak peek at the newest mini totes, and we’ve got some pastels coming our way, people! Get ready for some late Spring fun with these teeny tiny holdalls.

It’s Still Easter, Right?

News of the new Trader Joe’s mini totes has come via @zuncola and @traderjoesobsessed on Instagram, with both of them claiming to have seen them in the flesh. We say “claim” – the latter account has actually seen them and provided the pictures to show for it. In the post, @traderjoesobsessed included images of the new mini totes, which are coming in various shades of pastel stripes. It looks like we’ve got a blue one, a green one, a pink one, and a kind of peach-y one on the way.

We would assume that these mini tote bags, like the rest of the ones that Trader Joe’s has put out, will have the same, larger reusable bag inside that you can actually use to store your shopping in. We would also assume that as with previous versions, they’ll be priced at $2.99 or thereabouts. Beyond that, we don’t have many details, other than the fact that it looks as though these will be dropping towards the end of April or in May. So we’re not far off!

The History of the Trader Joe’s Mini-Tote

Trader Joe’s mini tote bags may be relatively recent, but they tap into a long old history for the supermarket and its reusable containers. Trader Joe’s first started selling totes in 1977, and over time, they’ve become an accessory in and of themselves. In 2024, though, they sold mini totes for the first time, and in the words of Kim Kardashian, they broke the internet. Turns out it was a bit of a stroke of genius shrinking these bags to novelty-sized proportions, as people lined up to get them, and they promptly sold out.

Over the last couple of years, TJ’s has brought them back several times – we were discussing them back in February, so we’ve been keeping a keen eye on them – and now, that time has rolled around again. And they might, just might, be big enough to stash its new Parmesan tapenade in, so if nothing else, they can store one single item. Let’s be honest, though, that’s not why you’re buying it.
