In honor of everyone’s favorite messy summertime treat, Trader Joe’s has released a new product in their freezer section: S’Mores Bars. These bars consist of a bottom layer of graham-cracker-crumb crust, a middle layer of fudge brownie, and a top layer of toasted marshmallow. Like I said, they come frozen so you can thaw them in the fridge or pop them in the oven for a few minutes.
Do these live up to real s’mores eaten around a campfire? Let’s find out (just in time for National S’mores Day, which is August 10, in case you didn’t have it marked on your calendar).
We were disappointed by the last s’mores-flavored product that Trader Joe’s released, their S’mores Ice Cream. The ice cream base weirdly tasted like coffee rather than graham crackers and the pint was thin on mix-ins. Luckily, we were not let down this time around! Trader Joe’s S’mores Bars are delicious and they really taste like an upgraded version of s’mores. The graham crust is a little salty, buttery like a pie crust, and makes a great foundation. The brownie is super rich and fudgy. And the marshmallow layer is perfectly bruleed—you get a genuine toasted marshmallow flavor that’s lacking in a lot of s’mores-inspired products. I ate them both cold out of the fridge and toasted in the oven, and both preparations were delicious! I would absolutely recommend buying these before summer ends and they’re replaced by some pumpkin spice product or another.
