The Trader Joe’s Soda Its Customers Can’t Stop Buying

I predict that, in years to come, Trader Joe’s will become a benchmark example of how to build brand loyalty. The way it continues to nail its products and keep its customers happy should be studied: Yes, there are a few dud items here and there, but the passion and enthusiasm its shoppers feel for the majority of its foods is nothing short of exceptional. It manages to do that with its drinks, too – and especially its sodas. From its new prebiotic soda flavors to its longer-standing beverages, it generally sticks the landing.

We saw this in action yet again when a recent Reddit thread appeared, praising its Rhubarb & Strawberry Soda. And guess what? People absolutely love it.

Trader Joe’s Rhubarb & Strawberry Soda has been on its shelves for a good couple of years now, but this week, we saw with fresh eyes how well the store’s done with it. “I really hope they won’t discontinue rhubarb & strawberry soda because I want to drink it every day for the rest of my life,” said the creator of the Reddit thread mentioned above, before saying it was “the best thing ever.” They were joined by other admirers, with another shopper stating that it “almost makes me wanna drive 40 minutes to TJs to get it.” 

This is all pretty impressive – especially considering that this drink doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel or offer a flavor profile no one’s ever tried before. Instead, it’s just a down-the-line offering of two fruits, which are both executed excellently. It’s not overly sweet, with a nice tartness running through it, thanks to the rhubarb – and thanks to the real strawberry and rhubarb juices it’s made with, it actually tastes like fruit. Tick, tick, tick.

Although Trader Joe’s Rhubarb & Strawberry Soda is good on its own, the Reddit thread created in honor of it also threw up a few different ways to serve it. One person recommended adding a splash of cream, which sounds absolutely heavenly: A drinkable dessert. Another, in a move that feels much more aligned with my own tastes, suggested using it as a mixer with some gin. It sort of seems like the wrong time of year to be considering that, but maybe mentally bookmark that one for when summer comes around again. Oh, and it might be worth stocking up on this soda while you can: Some people have reported that it comes and goes from their local Trader Joe’s.
