This Trader Joe’s Staple Seriously Divides Its Customers

The hit rate at Trader Joe’s is high. It is not, however, 100%. More often than not, the supermarket hits the mark with its items in terms of customer estimations, and lately it’s been dropping products weekly that people have been getting behind (case in point, its Swedish Princess Cake and its Chocolate Mousse Pumpkins, both of which have been winning plenty of fans).

A lot of the time with Trader Joe’s, though, attention goes toward its more innovative, “this is a twist on a classic”-type products – and its staples and everyday items sort of stay out of the spotlight. Turns out, they might be even more divisive than the eye-catching items everyone talks about. TJ’s Chicken Nuggets: It’s time for an interrogation.

Trader Joe’s Organic Chicken Nuggets

This week, a thread popped up in the Trader Joe’s subreddit, in praise of its Organic Chicken Nuggets. “TJ’s Chicken Nuggets are the best store-bought nuggets out there!” the original poster stated in their title, with a spring in their step and joy in their heart. The OP went on to state that the nuggets tasted like actual chicken (always a plus in our book) and that they paired well with Chick-fil-A sauce. 

And then, the comments started rolling in. Dozens of them, in fact. Some people were in agreement – and others absolutely weren’t. “I thought those were the worst nuggets I’ve ever eaten in my life, and I threw out the rest of the package after eating three,” stated one person, in a scathing critique of these little pieces of chicken. Another customer, meanwhile, was more muted, saying simply, “I think they’re fine.” That feels slightly like a damning-with-faint-praise kind of situation, no? 

So What’s The Problem?

The main issue with Trader Joe’s Organic Chicken Nuggets is that they seem to be a little, well, bland. The texture also leaves people wanting: There’s a slight sponginess to them that seems a little off-putting to some. This also isn’t the first time that Trader Joe’s has had a nugget issue. Way back at the start of 2025, we sampled its then-new Spicy Chicken Nuggets and found them to have little to no flavor to speak of. For the sake of balance, plenty of people in the Reddit thread discussing the Organic Chicken Nuggets have said how much they like the spicy ones…so it’s all just a matter of taste, ya know?
