If there’s one thing you can rely on in this crazy world, it’s that celebrities are gonna release their own lines of products. Some of them are good (hey, we loved Shaq gummies), others leave something to be desired (we simply cannot recommend Guy Fieri’s frozen meals). The latest influencer to get in on the action is Alexandra Cooper, host of the popular podcast Call Her Daddy. Cooper is riding the specialty bev wave into grocery stores with the release of an “electrolyte- and vitamin-packed” beverage called Unwell Hydration.
Well, well, well…what is Unwell Hydration?
Cooper’s venture into the world of electrolyte drinks is an extension of her Unwell Network, which hosts other podcasts—Hot Mess with Alix Earle, Pretty Lonesome with Madeline Argy, etc.—and promotes other lifestyle influencers. In an Instagram post, Cooper described the bev as “a little something to help get you through all of life’s unwell moments.” The drink itself comes in three flavors—Strawberry, Orange Hibiscus, and Mango Citrus—and purports to be packed with “electrolytes, B-vitamins, [and] barely any sugar.” The drinks aren’t set to launch in Target stores (and on Target.com) until January 1, 2025, but Cooper’s venture is already getting mixed reviews from fans who are concerned that capitalism will clash with Cooper’s brand of feminism.
Cooper dedicated the release of the product to “my hungover bitches on their walk of shames, the hot c*nts who actually go to pilates every morning, the girlies grinding it out at their desks, and the superhuman moms working their asses off.” The dudes have Logan Paul’s Prime, and now the girlies have Cooper’s Unwell. That’s rubbing some people the wrong way.
“You have the money and reach to really do something and yet you chose to shill an unnecessary product under the guise of feminism so you could make money off of women. It’s just so disappointing,” one Instagram user wrote. “Just another ‘influencer’ taking money from us trying to survive to put more money in her own bag,” another commented. Others requested an actual list of ingredients, beyond just “electrolytes and B vitamins.”
No matter how you feel about influencer-promoted products, you have to admit that electrolyte drinks are trending pretty hard right about now. The packaging is cute. And Cooper has major reach. But it has to be good to catch on. Only time will tell whether Unwell takes off or winds up in the bargain bin alongside Guy’s Cheesy Chicken Enchilada Bowl (woof).
