Walmart’s Taking “Cocktail Shrimp” Very Literally

Few things go better with a chilled cocktail than chilled cocktail shrimp. A couple of pieces of shrimp with a sprightly sauce that you can pick at, dunk, and chew on while you catch up with your nearest and dearest (or endure conversation with a neighbor that you’ve always found unbelievably boring)? Ah, delicious.

How about when you start combining some flavors, though? That’s the punt that Walmart’s taking with its new frozen shrimp product – which feels very summery indeed. Let’s check out what’s going on in its freezer section.

Bettergoods Piña Colada Popcorn Shrimp

Walmart has, according to @candyhunting, got a new Piña Colada Popcorn Shrimp heading to its frozen aisle. Sold under its bettergoods private label, this product consists of, so sayeth its packaging, “coconut breaded shrimp with a hint of tropical pineapple and other natural flavors.” As per the product listing on the Walmart website, these “natural flavors” look as though they’re sugar, turmeric, and paprika, although the latter two seem to be added for color. The coconut and the pineapple, though, are the star attractions here.

Whether they’ll work or not is another question entirely, but…they might! We’re fairly sure the coconut will, at least; coconut shrimp is always a winner. The pineapple, on the other hand, is a bit of a bigger risk, but hey – we’re all about taking chances. As yet, this shrimp isn’t available for purchase online, and it doesn’t seem as though it’s been rolled out fully in stores just yet – but check the Walmart app for availability at your closest location.

Another Sweet Treat, Perhaps?

The piña colada flavor isn’t the only one being rolled out for summer over at Walmart. The retailer is also dropping a Sweet Chili Puffed Shrimp, which is (as we’re sure you’ve already figured out) imbued with sweet, spicy notes and which has a particularly robust crunch to it. This one feels the more dippable of the two, if we’re honest; we can see this going well with a teriyaki dip, or with a plain old sweet chili to double up on the flavor. Both of them, though, are precision-engineered for the balmy weeks ahead. Keep an eye on the frozen shrimp section next time you’re in the store.
