Costco is really tuning up the fan service for me in particular. First they released a few cinnamon focused items for me this past week. Now they’ve gone and released a cookie-fied sundae in their food court. My personal favorite restaurant in the entire world. So you’d think I’d be absolutely infatuated with this latest release but I’ll admit, I have some hesitations. Let’s get into it. Here’s my thoughts on Costco’s new Vanilla Crunch Sundae.

Our Verdict
Pros: This is a cookie crunch sundae that’s meant to give cookies and cream vibes. It does a solid job at that. They layer in the cookie crumbles at the top and bottom of the sundae, which I really appreciate. I understand that they’re not about to mix up a whole-ass cookies and cream shake just for me. They’ve got food to produce!
The layer of cookie crunch at the bottom makes for a nice end to the sundae. Mine was a little soupy from the warm summer sun, so I was left with a beautiful cookies and cream shake-like experience to end things off on.
Cons: This is, in almost every single way, just a basic vanilla sundae from Costco’s food court. Which as I’ll remind you, was an item so basic that we initially skipped it in our taste test of all the food court offerings. Yikes. Not a good start.
Then comes the cookie crunch. Now I will easily admit that Costco doesn’t market this as an Oreo cookie sundae. It’s just that I have a personal belief that anytime you try to make a cookies and cream style dish, it should use Oreos for the cookies portion. Not that everyone has to but Oreos are by far the best dark cocoa cookie so it just makes sense to me.
It’s very obvious that Costco is, in fact, not using Oreos for their vanilla crunch sundae. Which is fine, I won’t dock them too many points, but as an Oreo fanatic the substitute is noted. The cookies they do use have a bit of flavor to them but it easily gets lost among the chocolate sauce that they top the sundae with.
What we’re left with is really just a normal sundae you can get at any time, with a bit of crunch for texture. Which is fun but certainly nothing to write home about. If you happen to see this at the food court when you’re there then I’d recommend checking it out, but you definitely don’t have to rush on over before it’s gone.
