Popeyes just launched the Honey Chicken Biscuit. A sandwich that takes a little creative energy from their fans that were chef-ing things up with their iconic biscuits, the chicken filet, and a few sachets of honey sauce to tie it all together. This week they released this creation for only $5. That’s a heck of a deal that we couldn’t pass up, so you know we had to get it and try it out for ourselves.

Popeyes’ Honey Chicken Biscuit
Pros: Popeyes’ chicken is just a powerhouse by itself. It alone can do a lot of heavy lifting and then you throw in the buttermilk biscuit as well? I mean it’s hard to do wrong by that. It really delivers a lot of what you’d expect here. There’s a lot of flavor coming from the chicken, a soft biscuit for things to land on, and the honey adds a nice coating of sweetness to the mix. You know what you’re getting into when you pick up this sandwich.
Cons: I guess I mean that to a literal level. The description that Popeyes gave for the Honey Chicken Biscuit sandwich is that it would be a pairing of their iconic chicken on a larger version of the buttermilk biscuit that they’re known for, all paired with two sachets of sweet honey sauce. That is quite literally what I got.
I let my brain run a little too wild in the leadup to this sandwich. I wholeheartedly thought that they would find some creative way to combine the honey into the sandwich so I wasn’t literally squeezing out the honey sauce onto the sandwich myself. I guess they really were looking to just recreate the energy of how this was created, by the everyday consumer with the items that were on the menu.
That’s on me. Popeyes did aptly spell it out for me that I would be getting two packets of honey with the sandwich. I admit my fault. Though you can’t blame me for the thought process, right?
Things in the sandwich got a little dry a few bites in. I’d attribute it to Popeyes reaching for the sticky honey sauce instead of a creamier mayo or aioli to lube things up. While the sandwich was most certainly put together to be an option for lunch or dinner, the sweetness of the honey makes my brain really think that it was breakfast time. I really wanted to love it, but my heart just isn’t in this as much as I thought it’d be.
