We Tried The Strawberry Milk Cookie From Crumbl And Our Dreams Were Crushed

This week, Crumbl has taken on the flavors of the back-to-school spirit in stride. With everything from cookies and cream to Pop-Tarts, they’re embracing the flavors that made childhood after school snacking nostalgia-worthy. One of their flavors this week took on the beloved flavored milks that permeated the scene, but not the typical chocolate. No, no, Crumbl could never be as simple as that. Instead, they collaborated with Pirouline (the makers of the famous wafer straws that you can actually sip through!) to make a strawberry milk cookie.

It sounds like a great idea. But, like everything we hear about here at Sporked, we approached it with some healthy skepticism. Were they really going to be able to translate that iconic strawberry milk flavor to a cookie? We knew we’d have to find out for ourselves. So, right as Crumbl opened at the beginning of our Monday, we were ready and rearing to taste test this cookie and let you lovely people know what the deal really is with this cookie. Here are our thoughts.

Can We Really Be Calling This Strawberry?

Pros — I’m not going to sugar coat it, folks. It’s hard to find positives about this cookie to report back on. But for the sake of giving it a fair representation I’ll say that pretty much across the board, I always appreciate the cookies Crumbl makes with the mousse topping. It’s always light in a way that makes such a dense cookie far more approachable. And, of course, the Pirouline Rolled Wafer was delicious… despite its overall minimal involvement in the cookie.

Cons — This cookie was perplexing in perhaps the worst way possible. The whole idea behind this cookie is that it should, in some capacity, taste like strawberry milk. I hesitate to say that it should taste like strawberry, only because strawberry milk doesn’t necessarily taste like strawberry in and of itself. With that in mind, it still didn’t even taste like strawberry milk. No part of it that was flavored (the strawberry streusel cookie and the strawberry milk mousse) had any detectable flavor other that butter, vanilla, or dairy.

I kept having to taste bites that looked pink and lusciously filled with strawberry flavor just to be confused. It was to the point where upon getting a second opinion we even thought it was possible they forgot to incorporate whatever the strawberry flavor was to be used in the cookie entirely. But that simply could not have been the case since there were little flecks of strawberry in the cookie base.

On top of that, the strawberry streusel cookie was just so overwhelmingly sweet and uninteresting that it just ruined the cookie overall. If that supposed strawberry flavor had come through, perhaps it could’ve saved it. But alas, we left this cookie disappointed. Our dreams of starting the week of strong with a dose of sweet childhood nostalgia were crushed in just one bite.
