What Happened to Lost Energy Drink?

The early to mid aughts were a wild time for energy drinks in the U.S. Red Bull was established and gaining in popularity. Monster and Rockstar burst onto the scene and immediately claimed dedicated fanbases. If you loved guzzling highly caffeinated beverages, this was your Camelot.

This time however also created a great number of lost souls in the energy drink world—people who fell in love with a flavor or a brand and dedicated all their energy drink drinking energy to them only to see that drink disappear. One example of this was the aptly named Lost Energy Drink. What happened to Lost Energy Drink? Do they still make Lost Energy drink? Where can I buy Lost Energy Drinks? Let’s find what happened to Lost.

What happened to Lost Energy Drinks?

Let me make clear that Lost Energy Drinks were not affiliated with the popular and frustrating television series Lost. There was no Smoke Monster flavor or anything like that. Lost Energy Drink was actually affiliated with Lost clothing brand. Lost clothing still makes popular board shorts, t-shirts, and surfing accessories.

Red Bull sponsored motocross events from its early days. Monster energy drinks debuted around 2002 and has a history of sponsoring and being affiliated with motor sports and action sports. And Monster’s parent company, Hansen Natural Corporation, made a play to win over those cool surfer kids by releasing Lost Energy Drinks in 2005. Lost cans were plastered with graffiti artwork surrounding the Lost logo. The brand claimed “We had the folks at Monster make us one that didn’t suck.”

Lost came in several varieties: Lost Energy, Lost Five-O Energy + Juice, Lost Perfect 10 Energy (sugar free), and Lost Energy Big Gun. But it didn’t matter how cool Lost Energy Drink seemed to be. By 2010, Lost had been discontinued and disappeared from store shelves. While Lost had its share of hardcore fans, it just wasn’t popular enough with the general public to continue being manufactured.

Do they still make Lost Energy Drink?

Unless you somehow traveled backwards in time and brought this article with you and read it there, then no, they do not make Lost Energy Drink. Hansen Natural Corporation dropped Lost and focused all of its energy on Monster. You can’t really argue with that call. Monster was a huge success. The company renamed itself Monster Beverage Corporation in 2012. These days, Monster energy controls around thirty percent of the U.S. energy drink market, second only to Red Bull.

Where can I buy Lost Energy Drinks?

If you are one of those sad lost souls that fell in love with Lost Energy Drink and spend your days roaming the Earth and bemoaning the fact that you can no longer sip your nectar, don’t give up. You can still find some unopened cans of Lost Energy Drink out there on various online auction sites. Granted, these drinks are pretty old, so they probably don’t taste great. Also, several of the Lost flavors match up pretty well with some of Monster’s current offerings. So keep trying what’s out there and I’m sure you’ll find something you like. But as far as finding new Lost cans or having Lost make a comeback. Hope in Lost is pretty much a lost hope.
