We’ve all eaten at boring, humdrum restaurants before, and when the meal finally comes to a close, there’s absolutely no reason to ever put ourselves through such a mundane dining experience ever again. Some establishments don’t seem to put any effort into making customers feel excited to be there, and frankly, that’s a darn shame. All it takes is someone creative behind the scenes to add some theme or fun decor to turn an average eatery into a fun-filled spot that people want to return to.

Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar ― San Francisco, CA
This restaurant is everything you could ever want when it comes to a Polynesian vibe. Not only are diners surrounded by tropical plants of all kinds, but the very center of the room is a massive lagoon with a boat, where a live band plays away while you enjoy your meal. The colors are vibrant, the tunes flow freely, and the whole vibe is just overly exotic and fun.
The Airplane Restaurant ― Colorado Springs, CO
The name of this restaurant couldn’t be more on the nose. Diners literally eat inside a massive, decommissioned airplane. The plane is a Boeing KC-97 tanker that was built in 1953 and flew all around the world, carrying thousands of passengers while active. The walls are adorned with airplane-themed knick-knacks and memorabilia, and diners can expect steak and seafood as opposed to the boring stuff airlines serve during an actual flight.
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater ― Orlando, FL
After schlepping around Disney’s Hollywood Studios all day, visitors can snag a truly unique dining experience paired with a movie in this unique 1950s-themed theater. Diners eat inside vintage, open-top cars in front of a huge screen where they’re treated to a variety of clips from classic science fiction films. Park yourself inside, grab a bite, and stare at the screen while you conjure up enough energy to venture back out into the chaotic park.
Jailhouse Pizza ― Brandenburg, KY
Have you ever wanted to know what it was like to enjoy a meal as a felon? Well, at this pizza spot you can finally live out that dream. All the tables are set inside jail cells, and the iron-barred doors are slammed shut when the food arrives. The building served as an actual jail when it was constructed in 1906, and according to lore, some of the inmates still haunt it.
Aquarium Restaurant ― Nashville, TN
Wouldn’t it be awesome to munch on a platter of shrimp while a shark swam up to a glass window right next to you? That’s exactly the kind of experience you’ll have at this Nashville spot. The restaurant is built around a 200,000-gallon tank complete with sharks, sea turtles, stingrays, and a boatload of unique fish. You can even see a mermaid swim by on occasion.
