As a Brit, I have a very different idea of what a biscuit is than those of you over in the US. Ours are hard, dry, crumbly, and while delicious, not especially suited to being served with much else than a cup of tea (although a slice of cheese on a digestive biscuit: Tell me it’s not heaven). The biscuits that more typically come as a fast food side, though – ie. US-style biscuits – well, those are a little harder to come by over here, albeit not impossible by any means. We have Popeyes now, after all.

A recent award, though, reminded me that I should probably be better acquainted with the flaky, tender, excellent-with-fried-chicken version. And apparently, one fast food chain’s doing it better than the rest.
Take A Bow, Church’s!
We’ve recently seen the annual publication of USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, which honor the best of…well…a lot of things! The awards have travel, lifestyle, and food categories, and after competitors in each category are chosen by a panel of experts, the public then votes on the winners.
And this year, Church’s Texas Chicken fared very well. The chicken chain received first place in the Best Fast Food Side category for its Honey-Butter Biscuits. Additionally, Church’s also received the runner-up prize in the Best Fast Food Fried Chicken category for its flagship offering. It came one above Roy Rogers in that one, incidentally – and the winner was Jollibee.
Church’s Honey-Butter Biscuits: A Fan-Favorite
Although I’ve not had the pleasure of trying Church’s Honey-Butter Biscuits in my time, even I can see, from thousands of miles away, that people love these things. Its biscuits get consistently positive praise across the board on social media: One recent thread on Reddit, in which the poster stated that Church’s has the best biscuits in the game, received well over 100 comments, with plenty of people responding in the affirmative (although, as is ever the way with the internet, there were a lot of people refuting this opinion). While the restaurant may not be doing something right for everyone, it’s definitely doing something right for a LOT of people.
Its biscuits being crowned the leader of the pack is the latest in a slew of news coming out from the chain, which has had a busy year. A few weeks ago, it launched its Golazo meal in honor of the World Cup, and the month before, it brought out its new Churchie sauce with a fun release party. No doubt this award will give it another spring in its step.
