Alani Nu, my beloved, are we moving too fast? It feels like I just reviewed your last new flavor and yet folks around the country are already finding cans of the newest Alani Nu Energy flavor on shelves. It’s fitting that this news is a real scoop, because this new Alani Nu flavor is straight out of the ice cream aisle. Let’s dig into all the available information on the new Alani Nu Sherbet Swirl ahead of the official announcement we’re expecting any day now.
Alani really hasn’t done a sherbet before?
Yes and no! While this will be the first sherbet-flavored energy drink from Alani Nu, the “Sherbet Swirl” flavor name is actually already in use for one of their pre-workout mixes. I wasn’t able to track down the finer flavor notes of that pre-workout mix specifically, but based on the energy drink can design, I’m expecting the classic sherbet trio of orange, lime, and raspberry.
Is sherbet a common flavor for energy drinks?
It’s definitely popping up more and more—with mixed results. Reignbow Sherbet ranked very highly in our own Reign Energy Drink ranking here on Sporked. That said, I was not a huge fan of Alani Nu’s new parent company Celsius’ recent take on sherbet when I reviewed it a few weeks ago. (If we look beyond energy drinks into the broader beverage world, I absolutely loved Sunny D’s take on sherbet that I tried last year.)
When and where will I be able to find this new Alani Nu on shelves for myself?
Officially speaking, I have no idea. Alani Nu’s standard operating procedure is to politely ignore me when I ask any questions about flavors ahead of their official announcements (even though I’m so good at honoring embargo dates). Unofficially speaking, this flavor is already popping up on shelves, so I figure it’ll be announced formally in the next week or two. It’d be a major departure for Alani Nu to release this exclusively to a single retailer, so I imagine we’ll eventually be able to find it anywhere Alani Nu drinks are sold.
What’s next for Alani Nu?
Well, I’ve got a theory or two, as I always do. I might have heard a rumor that we can expect a cotton candy flavor to launch after Sherbet Swirl. As someone with significant cotton candy experience, I am only a little terrified of what this sugar-flavored zero-sugar drink is going to taste like. Alani Nu also trademarked “Cherry Bombshell” a few months ago; I’d be shocked if we saw a third cherry flavor launch from Alani Nu, but anything’s possible!
